Title: New Here With a few Questions.
Post by: Dipp on December 08, 2009, 05:03:37 AM
I have a 88 XR-7.  I've had it for about 6 years now but it has spent most of the last 3-4 years just sitting in the garage(shift bracket on tranny broke and intake manifold gasket leaks bad).  My other cars include a 1979 F100 with a 351W and C-4, 1992 F-250 with the 460 and auto, 1996 Mercury Sable and my only non ford is the 1992 Toyota Previa Minivan.  Now for my questions.

1) Can you get the digital dash to read past 85MPH?
2) How hard is the convertion to MAS Air from SD to do?
3) How hard is it convert to a T-5 car from the AOD?
4) Oh yeah this is one I have just been woundering for a long time What is special about a 5.0 HO vs a normal 5.0?

Thanks for your input and I will get pics of my Ford Fleet posted sometime.

Chris

For the most part,it's all easy, straight forward mods.Read what Kitz linked for you and see where that leads you, then we'll go from there.

The 5.0HO has, depending on year, roughly 215 to 225 hp, whereas your stock engine, the lowly 5.0 SO, has 155 hp.

Since you already have the V8, all you'd need for the HO swap is, well, the HO engine, and the matching eec...BUT, keep in mind that the mass-air eec is different, and will not interchange with the speed-density setup, so if you're eventually going to mass air, something to consider. But mass-air has no benefit with a stock HO, unless you want to mod it up a little right out of the box.

This is moot though if you only can find an '89 and up Stang for the engine, eec, and all, as that's when they went to mass-air, ('88 in Cali only).

My point here is: no sense buying or acquiring 2 different eec's if you for sure are going to mass-air eventually, just get it now, and do the conversion when you go to HO.

Like Vin said, CoolCats has all you'll ever need to know

If the engine is currently in decent shape, swap on some E-7 heads,H.O cam and upper intake,H.O throttlebody,19# injectors and ECM ,and a good exhaust and enjoy.Keep it Speed Density for now.You can do the whole swap in a day.

Welcome, all that stuff is "mostly, fairly" straightforward.  Coolcats covers it pretty well, just do some reading up on it.  Any further questions just do a search on this site or post up a question.

I love the 88's

I'm going to close this.

The answers can be searched, or questions can be asked in the proper location.
