Title: Two tone paint
Post by: tbirdsps on December 07, 2009, 12:55:40 PM
It seems to me there was a thread on this subject before but I can't find it.  There was a picture of a red and black Tbird that I thought was nice.  I'd like to see it again.  I'm looking for paint ideas for my 86.

Can't see it.  This stupid government computer doesn't show photobucket.

On the picture I've attached the car was red from that body line up and black from that body line down.

Yup.  That's the ticket.  I was thinking of the reverse scheme but that is very nice.

There are so many great looking Birds and Cougars on this site.  It's very tempting to simply copy one of the greats.

I'm quite taken by 84TBirdTurbo42's red and black and Vinnies green Birds.  I've had to put 84TBirdTurbo42's on my computer desk top to inspire me to go forward.  I'm going to leave the side trim on and do the sides in black and red on top.

I really can't wait to get started.  But first the mundane stuff must be done.  Valve cover gaskets, a/c high pressure hose.  New heater core and the ever leaking oil pressure switch replacement.  Oh and I almost forgot the very dead Ford factory stereo, it makes awful noise and does not play music,  lots of hissing, it must go.

Not to mention the scrubbing of the interior, replace the visors and headliner.  Then the painting can begin.  I may even keep but refinish the poly wheels.  The trim rings on mine are near perfect.  There's lots to get done this winter so when warmer weather comes the painting can start.

lol thanks guys, i wasnt expecting this much rave over it, theres alot more detail in the paint too. the gold stripe has a silver and red pin stripe. you guys have really flattered me. honestly, this shows u can do this on the cheap too, i have about 750 into paint and materials. my uncle painted it for me and showed me how to do body work. and while the car isnt perfect, i wouldnt want it to be. I dont need a trailer queen. As for the side molding, mine was so badly warped and peeling i just got rid of it.

I goes to show that you don't need the big bucks to do a nice job.  Pictures do hide sins but as you said it's not a trailer queen.

I can't help that I like it.:D

Very nice the way the two tone treatment was executed above the headlamps! It could have been the usual straight line but this looks so much better!

84TBirdTurbo42, if the pic in your avatar is the "before", then shake your uncle's hand for me. Nothing against the avatar, but WOW. Sharp, you should be very proud of that one!!

tbirdsps, look closely at this car before you invert the colors. I think if you put the black on the bottom and red on the top, it's not going to look right at all. The black will "hide" the body and the red will make the top look like it's floating in space. I don't think it will be a good look. Maybe someone on here has already done it though and can prove me wrong? In the meantime, see how the black on the top seems to make the bird look low and mean? Anyway, keep looking at color combinations and go with the one you like best.

I never thought of that.  Photoshop anyone????  It's hard to picture in my mind but it sounds reasonable.  Paint's a few months off so I have time to ponder.  I'd feel like a copy cat but the red I'll use is more of a fire engine red so it won't be exactly the same.:D

Sorry, I have to disagree. You've got a pretty sweet car at ANY age!! I have a hunch you've got a pretty cool uncle too. I am sure you've already thanked him, but thank him again.

Your car looks great! I like the black over red it really pops! I like two tones, of course I'm a little bias with mine being black and grey.

I talked to him not even 10 mins ago he said he has about 7 or 8 set that are ready to go I'm buying another set that will be fully refurbished just for car shows. He is even thinking about stamping out covers. If so i'll have the first set lol.

I'm even trying to get the clubs a discount. yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay
