Title: WTB 83-88 tbird/cougar CHEAP
Post by: fordguy545 on November 28, 2009, 11:59:00 PM
Doesnt need to be running, but would like the undercarriage to be solid.  Body itself can be rusty.  Want to build a new autox car and am planning seriously flared fenders to fit at least a 315 tire all the way around.  I just dont want to cut up a really nice car.  If you find anything around toledo ohio, let me know.

That's usually mutually exclusive. It's going to be tough to find a car with a rusty body, but a clean undercarriage. I'm not saying they don't exist, it's just that the bodies usually match what's underneath. Either way, I think you would be better off in the long run to find one as clean as possible and go from there. Speaking from experience, it really stinks to deal with rust at every turn. You are NOT going to want to Auto-X a car with rusty shock towers.

I'm trying to buy a car right now and I think the only way I will be able to get it is if I buy all three cars. One of them is an 88 TC.
Its a nice solid rust free southern car. If I can work the deal the way I want I will be able to sell the TC for about $800.
Im about 5 hours away in Roanoke VA but getting a rust free car is worth the trip.:D

wanna sell it?!?!?!?

Itd be nice to have a fairly rust free car, but just dont want to drop a whole lot on a car too. let alone getting flamed for cutting up a clean car:mad:
actually theres a really clean 85 or 86 listed for 1000 with a 3.8 auto.  Also have a car a block away from work that is TOTALLY rusted out thats a turbocoupe that I could swap everything over that I could probably get for $100

im looking to sell my 87 sport coupe.  it should be in my sig.  its got a bad se down the pass side rear wheel well, replaced transmission. SO302/aod/7.5 rear. stock steel rims, its basically rust free other than where the paint was sed off on the pass side.  the interior has pretty much every option.  sun/moonroof, keyless entry, auto dim and so on. the key is stuck in the ignition, battery is dead, and in a hurry to charge the battery i connected the jumper cables backwards. those are the only 2 problems with it.  im pretty sure both windows work but i havnt been out there. i think the mileage is about 140-150K  red cloth interior, starwars guages, no radio, but does have speakers.  if you fix the burned wiring from the battery being backwards charged it'll be a reliable daily driver.  also the heater core has been bypassed... you will need a trailor or have it towed theres more if anyone's interested PM me.

Molena, GA, 30258

asking $500.00

Thunder306, your birds got a bunch of parts on it, but its all setup for drag racing isnt it?  Also has a cage doesnt it?  88FoxBird's car actually fits the bill quite well from what I can see of it.  May end up going to pick that up next weekend.

Well it has 315's on the rear, 275's up front, full tubular front, coilovers, an 8pt rollbar and through the floor subframes. I'm not into autocrossing, so I'm not sure what you would need.

actually, coilovers and the tubular front end will most likely be done, and thru floor subframes are illegal in the class I'm building for:mad: My plan is to do cobra IRS and some good struts with coilovers slammed as far as I can and at least 315's at all 4 corners.  Also will be lightened as much as the class allows and will be 2.3T powered possibly with compound turbos.(HX35 lags too bad even with twin scroll manifold.)  But heres what Im doing with nothing more that bilstien struts and slightly bigger front sway, removed rear sway, poly bushings, 275/40/17 spoogeho V710's, and 350whp/395wtq.  Drivers front tire is about 2" off the ground.  And one Bhazard in the pass seat!!

Thats what I would have loved to do with mine but lack of funds kinda killed that idea lol. Would be nice seeing it still end up dodging cones!

I guess this can be locked up now.  Picked up fairly clean shell in warren michigan today for $200.  Definately needs a fair share of reassembly though.

yeah. Its got enough weight that it will actually MOVE in the snow.  Last winter, I had my bird in the driveway probably at the top of 3rd gear and it was moving all of 1ft/sec at most.  Really hard to get it on  a drive on lift like that.
