Avantis where done on Camaro chassis for a long while until recently.

Yup, just a newer Avanti.... they made them on newer Mustangs after the Camaro died off.

I have always been somewhere between "I think they're cool" and "I think they're ugly."

I actually like the Camaro based Avanit, they did a pretty good job of updating the design I think.

Much as I hate to say it, with the upswept quarter glass, the Cougar would take right to the design....

Probably still look like my aforementioned truckload of smashed asses though lol.

man, thats up there with the mn12 tbird fiberglass 50s ford conversion... i saw it and had to get a picture lol, i see tons of random crazy stuff like this doing my deliveries

Since they weren't converted cars, but rather factory built cars on Camaro sub structures, it's hard to say. In any case, I believe Avanti out of business now.

The earlier cars weren't built on anything at all but were simply new and updated versions of the 1963 design.

Hmmm... All I could find reference to on their website was 2006 vehicles. Glad to hear they are still ticking.

That's the page I found, but if you click on the "convertible" link, it shows the "2007" model. Hmmm....
