Title: Crazy dash question
Post by: hcor on November 11, 2009, 06:35:55 PM
Does anyone know of anything you can treat a hardened dash pad to soften it up some? I have several perfect pads but they are rock hard. I know it's a long shot but figured I'd ask anyway:rollin:

Actually, there is! In doing a bit of research I found that the people who make Leatherique recommend coating the dash in a good bit of Vasiline. Then, heat the interior (they recommend letting it sit in the sun) to cook it a bit, then buff it out.

Now, I have not yet tried this, but I intend to do so. I know that many say NOT to use a product containing petroleum, but I have found more than a few reputable sources claiming Vaseline to be most effective. Besides, Letherique is a well known, high end manufacturer who is advocating using someone else's product, so I tend to believe them. Here is a PDF from Leatherique. The reference to vinyl dashes and Vaseline is on page 13: http://www.leatherique.com/Leatherique%20bookletREV5.pdf

YMMV
