i have the parts 88t/c and i kept the motor and trans so far. just wondering because i have all the wiring in the harness off to the side in the engine bay ready to go. went inside the car and went to take the ecu out and its impossible to get my head in there to even see whats going on. all i have taken out so far is the passanger kick pannel. what else should i get out of the way to make it easier?
another thing i was wondering about is the clutch pedal assembly. the barke and cluch pedals come out together right? how hard is it to fish all this stuff through the firewall?
thanks
dan
There's a tiny little green screw that holds the ECU plastic holder in place, then carefully pull the ecu down, and loosen the 10mm bolt that holds it to the harness.Nothing to it.
The brake and clutch pedal are one assembly. You need to remove the steering column, remover the four nuts that hold it in and the two nuts from the bracket that supports the from of the assembly from the top. There's a plug and a vacuum line as well that goes to it.
oh,if it's a parts car,try to take care of any harnesses you remove.Someone will eventually want them if you don't use them.Save everything you don't use.You can make some money.
^^ What he said ^^
The EEC wiring should be worth around $75, so be careful with that side at least. The other side (driver side) isn't as valuable, but like Vinnie said, save it all if you can. If there are any rust free panels on it, definitely save those! Good luck.
you will probably have to pull the dash out and remove the heater box to remove the ecu harness. just a heads up.
yea i will be keeping the eng and harness for another car. there is an 86 gem t/c in chicage w/o a motor and trans.
sounds like i have a bit of work ahead of me... oh well
A '87-'88 harness isn't going to work in a '86 unless you swap it all, even then the EEC test connector is in the ABS/ride control harness... There is a connector near the EEC that couples the test plug wiring to the EEC harness...
yeah i have the whole harness ready to come out from the passanger side. is there going to be stuff on the driver side harness i am going to need? i just unplugged that stuff from the harness have not cut any wires.
