Title: No Ttitle Porsche ~ Advice Please
Post by: Romeo2k on November 09, 2009, 02:29:51 AM
Ok,
So just looking up random cars on craigslist. (My dad is gonna need a vehicle soon)

I stumbled across this:
http://seattle.craigslist.org/est/cto/1446690681.html

I've sent an e-mail asking for more info.
However the main problem (Supposedly) besides talking my parents into letting me get it, Is that it has no title.

How complicated, Time consuming, Costly (Etc) Might it be to fix this? Anyone know?
Is it really worth it in the end?

It's about 17 miles away from me.

I wouldn't touch it. Everytime I bought a car without the title, it did not belong to them, or I ended up giving it back. Tell him you'll pay him to get the title if your really interested.

Some places, you can do a little legal searching, and maybe get the title transferred to your name by abandonment, or something along the lines of a mechanic's lien. However, Porsche parts aren't very cheap...I wouldn't want one for a daily driver.

Stay away from it-If the title was easy to get with no issues the person selling it would have gotten it.

Bingo. I've bought and sold alot of cars and from what I've found, if it aint got a title they either A:dont own it, or B:they bought it with out the title and couldnt get one made. Once in a while you do find someone that just lost it and was just too lazy to get a new one, but usually those people will go and get one made if you show your interested in buying.

All in all, if they wont get a title for you dont touch the car.

You may be able to contact your state's DMV(assuming that's where it was last registered) and find out what the status is... I'll bet it has a lien on the title that needs to be paid off...

Alright, Thanks guys.
Knew it sounded too good to be true, And even a little odd/shady by that brief description.
Guy never did get back to me on my questions either.

As for title info, I do not have a VIN to work with... And everything on the WA DMV website required contact or written documents by the registered owner. (Which i'm pretty sure seller was not)
Only thing that sounded like would work is if it got towed/impounded and owner did not claim it after 90 days~It then becomes state property or something, And a new title could issued if desired. (at a cost)

In VA if you've had possession of a vehicle more than 30 days you can apply for an abandoned vehicle title... This involves sending the owner a registered letter and if there is no response in 10 days you'll be issued a title... Of course I'm sure this is on a clear title, if there was a lien the holder has to be notified as well...
