Title: Eaton M90 on a 5.0
Post by: Lightningbird on November 05, 2009, 01:57:48 AM
Well since I have the Eaton M90 from a SC, I already made all the brackets and pulleys, I was gonna add the blower to my factory hot 5.0. I am aware that it will only make 4-6 lbs of boost. I figured that the blower can be spun faster using the 10% OD crank and 10% OD blower pulley. This would create more boost and allows me to use the factory intercooler. The larger volume of the IC would decrease the boost pressure but the M90 is a flame thrower anyway....really needing the cooler. I am not using a jack shaft so the blower will be humpin' anyway since that is almost a 2:1 ratio via the crank and blower pulleys. I have NO accessories with exception of an alternator. Has anyone done this with the exception on Mike at Too High? What can I use for a throttle cable since the blower itself would be mounter way on the passenger side with the T/B even further away?
Any constructive criticism would be appreciated.

Do a search for jims306 on allfordmustangs.com

I was banned from there, otherwise I would find a link for you.

It is a waste of time unless your looking to get out of the nitrous alittle bit. You could be alot faster N/A or turbo'd for about the same money.

Thats only going to net you about 6-9Psi max with the stock pulley. I too have thought about this but would go turbo before going M90.

I already took the NO2 off as it was just too hard on parts with it's brutal torque and on/off nature. My wallet could not sustain and I was maxed out on the motor with out spending any more money on better block, crank.....blah, blah, blah. You know the story.

I already have all the stuff made and the blower sitting around, I might as well see what happens. I seriously doubt a turbo kit is less than this setup as I have $60 in it. BTW...I am a weekend bracket racer at best (when not deployed overseas or working 100 hour weeks). A turbo car is very inconsistent. A supercharger is way more consistent since it is run off the crank. This S/C would be driveway capable since we are talking 4-6 lbs of boost, if I'm lucky. The M90 has a large aftermarket availability and following making it worth a try.
6lbs on a stock 302 makes it run like a BBF. My GT-40P headed E cammed, single planed intake 302 should run lake a mad hatter.

I'll check out the site haystack....thanks.

I keep forgetting that you dropped the nitrous. I think you would be better off with too like on too high psi.

I already have a blower and all associated equipment needed. I have to pass, but thanks for the thoughts. I'll stick to my M90.

If you have everything you need, why not give it a try.  However, if you could find a used M112 from an '03-'04 Cobra, you'd have some room to grow and a cooler air charge to boot...guys are buying up M90's for $200+ and an M112 can be had for not much more....just some food for thought.

Good luck,
Don

The M112 is a completely different animal. I would have to remake everything to make it fit, with exception of the crank pulley. That's all that is the same. Sorry, I'm looking at going forward for a few bucks. Got a rug rat on the way and would like to save some cash.

Well, I wasn't aware they were that different.  Hopefully the M90 gives you the kick you need.

Good luck,
Don
