well, not even a mention, really, just a cartoon featuring one, comparing its upside down quarter window to the Gremlin. Not flattering, but at least somebody remembers the cars...
It's NOT about what you can see out the windows,it's about looking cool.
:iagree: with Vinnie.....:poke:
Great find Carm, thanks for sharing!
Although I was way ahead of them (http://"http://www.coolcats.net/fox/styling_198386.html")--by several years--in noticing the same...
I pointed this trend out to my wife a while back. she rolled her eyes.
You know the original design of the 1969 Ford Capri predated the Gremlin's inverted triangular window shape. It was changed at the last minute due to visibility.

Then there is the 1962 Studebaker Avanti

And funny thing while I was searching for an Avanti picture I discovered that they are still making them... On converted Mustang platforms!

First one that the did when they switched back to Ford platforms is local. Its yellow, real cool old guy. He cam into my job and I asked him what it used to be and he explained to me what Avanti was, even gave me a calendar with his car in it. They are interesting car, not my taste exactly.
I found this 1 at a local Cruise-In this Summer.....:D

The original ones look the best. Back when I was young I had a fascination for them.
I did a bunch of work on a mid 80's Avanti that the fool of a used car manager at the Saturn dealership bought at auction (he also bought a '63 T-Bird, and it almost cost him his job - the dealership's owner was unimpressed with this guy buying his childhood fantasies on the dealership's dime). This one had a caurbureted 305 SBC and TH350 tranny. It was interesting, but dog-ass ugly...
Ah, that could have been the pride of Youngstown, OH baby! To Nova Scotia with love. ;)
The Avanti mfg. moved to a vacant plant here in town for several years in the 1980's. I believe they started off using Monte Carlo frames and drivetrains, and then when Chevy killed the RWD programs in 1987-88 the Avanti plant switched to a modified Caprice frame/drivetrain.

They were okay, I guess...the bodies were little changed from their original Studebaker inception. People used to drive them around like they were all that. We used to laugh. LOL
