Before......

You need to put some bigger rotors on that beast now that you've got the rims to fit over them ;)

X2 on bigger brakes.

Just for posterity's sake, what springs did you use? ;)

'99 Mustang springs.

As far as bigger brakes,It'll happen after the engine gets finished.I've got a few parts already for that task, but,it was either do the brakes or the engine......the engine won.

I miss the Bird too,but when I was replacing the header panel after I got the hole in the other one, this one was the only one I found that was available at the time. One day,I MAY swap it out for a Ford piece, but I have an emblem I'm working on for this panel.I just haven't had the time to get it done.

those aftermarket panels have indents on the inside for you to drill out to but the bird on.  they look so blank without it.. :(

I saw the marks you're speaking of,but I didn't like the idea of the bird on the header being raised.I like them recessed up front like Ford did it.I don't know why that I'm like that.

It's nothing too special,Raven and stock mostly, with a few personal mods just for me.I need to take some new pics, but I haven't gotten around to it.I'll try to do that sometime this week.

Take it to a sign painter and have it painted on the header panel. It will look really close to the ford emblem, be a one day thing and you can change it slightly to fit your tastes.

I have a real emblem I'm goping to apply once it's done. It's on the back burner til the engine is done.Plus,I am always on the lookout for a Factory Ford replacement header panel.I got this aftermarket one because if I recall,it was like $75.00 shipped.

how full was your gas tank? On my car, I lose almost 3 inches in the rear with a full tank, but I'm sure my springs are worn out pretty good. It looks like it really didn't drop too much in the rear, and the front seems more or less perfect for looks at least. Hows the spring rate? is it more bouncy, or less? New springs or used?

Post by: vinnietbird on October 27, 2009, 07:10:29 AM
They were used springs. The car actually doesn't feel much different at all in the ride quality, but when you take a corner, you can tell a difference.A lot less "lean".The rear sits as it does because the Sport has air shocks right now and I keep the rear up a little so when I load the trunk,it doesn't squat. If I let more air out of the lines,it'll sit another inch lower in the rear.Eventually I'll buy the Mustang shocks I want and install my ChuckW shock mounts. That'll make a difference.Until then,it stays at it is.I can't go lower in the front.I'm really pushing the limits with the Mach 1 spoiler.Any lower and I'll be dragging on everything.

Roy,I'm using the pistol grip because it' comfortable, and I also have a Hurst billet shifter underneath it.

If you want to keep air shocks, but end up with more of a "performance" shock, use the Chuck's adapters and run Monroe MA777 shocks. The 777s are made for a Ford van, and thus are valved quite stiffly when used in a car, but have about the same compressed and extended lengths as Mustang shocks. I used to run these in my ASC/McLaren and they worked quite nicely.

Shiny Side Up!

vin, i just thought about something. it seems like my car sits at the same height as yours does with the mustang springs, could you measure from the ground to the fender lip front and rear? what size are your tires?

I'll measure when I get home this evening and post the front and rear.My tires and wheels are as follows....

Rear---17x10's with 275 40 17 tires

Front---17x9's with 255 40 17 tires...no spacers,no rub.

In the first pic, your car sits noticeably higher than in the 2nd pic.  I notice you have different wheels and a different header panel too.

They work fine.Mine were free as well.An alignment is in order afterwards.SO,if you have any other front end parts that need to be replaced, like tie rods, steering rack, whatever,do it when you replace the springs.

After a bit of research, my plans (please correct me if I am being silly here) are to utilize SN-95 GT springs, and SN-95 Bilstein Struts and Shocks.

I'm using the stock replacement struts for the Sport.I have a pair of SN-95 struts, but they are just dust collectors.I'm never going to use them.

I'm holding out for a set of adjustable rear shocks for the Sport.I'll install the control arms and differential one day when time allows, then go from there. If I like the results enough,I may just keep the air shocks on there. They actually do come in handywhen I'm bringing home almost $600.00 in groceries. That mush weight tends to make the rear squat, and I just air up the shocks a little before I go to the store, then let the air (most of it) back out afterwards. We'll see. Thanks for the offer on the shocks.I appreciate that.

hey vinnie, did you notice any difference in the handling of the car? what about launching, does it hook the same?

my t-bird hooks like crazy now and some of my mustang buddys have a hard time getting their lowered stangs to hook up. dont want the same to happen to me.
Title: What SN-95 springs did for the Sport....
Post by: vinnietbird on January 11, 2010, 06:58:18 AM
The handling is a little better because the center of gravity is lower, plus, there's a lot less "lean" in the corners. The car doesn't hook up well. Not because of the springs, but because the engine over powers the tires.I need stickier tires.I highly recommend the springs. The car sits low enough that it doesn't look like a 4x4 anymore, yet high enough that it doesn't bottom out on every spped bump or dip in the road.Just right.
