Title: 94-95 or 96-04 Spindles?
Post by: Romeo2k on October 21, 2009, 10:34:57 AM
Need some advice.

I'm gathering parts to do a 5lug conversion all around, I'm good for the rear but having troubles with the front.

I've got everything i should need except the banjo bolts for the front brake lines and spacers or new sn95 spec balljoints.

But i'm having a very hard time coming up with 94-95 spindles locally.
(96-04 is surprisingly easier)

I know the 94-95 spindles + my current knowledge and parts would be a straight up install.

But i am unsure about the 96-04 spindles...

*Keep in mind i would be upgrading the straight up stock '84 V6 front setup.

I guess what im asking is, What all would be getting myself into if i dive into:
Stock '84 V6 front setup
TO
"Lowered?"
SN95 96-04 Front Spindle Swap.

Would i need to change struts, a-arms and steering rack just to do this?

the newer spindles will make for a wider stance by pushing the wheels out farther. This can cause fender rubbing issues if you don't find wheels with the correct offset. Use the earlier style spindles

Ah, Yes that answers another question i had.

So really it kinda sounds like the 96-04 Spindles are more of a pain to work with.
Is there any significant benefit to using them over the earlier ones?

Also,
Erics write up mentions 96-04 Spindles are "Best For Lowered Cars".
I have possible future plans on a 1-2" drop, Would this affect usage of 94-95 Spindles?

Bummer is, I just heard back from a guy locally on craigslist and he still has some spindles, But they are from a 1996. :(

The guy wants $75 for the '96 Spindles, And they come with hubs and dust shields.
I could probably talk him to $65.

I'm having a hard time locating 94-95's...

Any answers to my last post? Should i still just pass and hold out for the earliers to show up?

I have an 87 V6 Bird LX,will be using a 5.0HO in the near future,Have an 88 lincoln Mark VII parts car.  Would it be better to use the Mark front suspensions stuff (The A arms have a coil spring kit from Arnott already) or should I use the 94-95 susp parts? Poly VS rubber? I have T/C sway bars already, I'm looking for great handling along w/5 lug conversion, also can you recomend a great all set of springs and struts? leaning towards handling?
