Title: Keyless Entry pad part # questions
Post by: V8Demon on October 19, 2009, 05:12:00 PM
According to Coolcats, the keyless entry pad for 87-88 cars is as follows:

E7SZ-14A626-A

Well and good.
I've been curious as to what other part number keyless pads could be used as suitable substitutes.  I have 2 Lincoln part #'s specifically that I'm curious about....

1 -- E5LB-14A626
2 -- FOLB-14A626

The connectors are the same between the 2 and it appears that the F0 is simply an update of the E5....
Are the pins in the same location?  Anyone know?  Any other possible substitutes out there?
My unit is in working order and lights up as it should, but I'd like to have one handy for when it stops....

Plug it in and check it.Pulling the door panel for us should be a 1 minute job at this point.

Easier said than done.  I have to BUY them first.....I'd like some confirmation that they'll work before I do that ;)

With regard to the eBay auction, I got one a couple of years ago from the exact same seller, excellent quality. Back then the seller specifically advertised with '86-88 Tbird keyless entry keypad', though.
Actually, I have my keypad right in front of me now, it appears the plug is different from the one in the eBay picture

one of my friends used i believe a crown vic pad or a explorer one... i know it didnt fit exactly in there, but it was close enough that you cant tell, and all you had to do was file down the hole for it? mayby i'll get him to chime in here. if not, do what we did and go to the junkyard one weekend and tinker with stuff. bring a battery and take the code off the trunk.

Where exactly IS the memory for the code anyway?

I was under the impression if I swapped a unit up to the connector that my preset code would remain the same.

I'm no expert on the keypads but it seems that most, if not all, from our era should interchange. We had the ones with chrome surrounds. It's possible to fit a later (MN12, etc.) black plastic-style, I would think. Worth investigating, anyway...sorry I can't give more definitive answers. But Paul, if the connectors are the same then it should work because that's the most important part. Worst case scenario, you'd have to rearrange some wires...no big deal.

As for the memory, it's in the keyless entry module behind the seat. Change out the module and the STOCK keypad combination changes also. Your made-up code can work on any module if you program it in, because the module allows 2 codes (one pre-determined/stock, and one custom program).

Perfect, time to order a spare!

Thank you everyone!  I'll keep you updated as to whether or not I'll have to do any repinning.

There are jumper wires inside the module that can be moved to change the factory code, but they are soldered in place... Unless you have experience desoldering components on PCBs, don't even consider it...

I use the code on both Grand Marquis that was factory on my first TC... That one used all five buttons so wear is equal... Of course both of those have remotes, so the pads are seldom used...

i took off the door panel to check at the plug and it looks alike  but im no expert  plus  ive noticed theres a black wire that looks like it should be plugged  but its not and its cut and nothing seems to be wrong (looks stock not like someone messed with it) whats the story behind this?

Don't know, but mine has that unplugged, cleanly cut black wire, too, so I guess the wire is not used/needed in our keypads

IIRC the other end doesn't have the ribs.....I haven't had my door panel off in a while.

I'm actually waiting on  a used one from a TC.  Couldn't pass it up.  We'll see what the part # is ( should be the E7 part #.

I think I am gonna order one of the new ones just to have as well;)  I'm making quite the stash of replacement parts.

Now I just need some extra headlights and doors  :hick:
