Minty 88 Turbo Coupe at a Ford dealer 15 minutes from me. It has 8,300 miles:D : http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?ct=u&car_id=268722895&dealer_id=84103&car_year=1988&rdm=1255060024498&model=TBIRD&num_records=25&systime=&make3=&make2=MERC&highlightFirstMakeModel=&start_year=1981&keywordsfyc=&keywordsrep=&engine=&certified=&body_code=0&fuel=&awsp=false&search_type=both&distance=50&marketZipError=false&model2=COUGAR&search_lang=en&sownerid=67746&showZipError=y&make=FORD&keywords_display=&color=&page_location=findacar%3A%3Aispsearchform&min_price=&drive=&default_sort=priceDESC&seller_type=b&max_mileage=&style_flag=1&sort_type=priceDESC&address=60638&advanced=&end_year=1988&doors=&transmission=&max_price=&cardist=9&standard=false
this is just unbelievable
I bet they gave the previous owner $200 for trade in value...
It's a grand cheaper on the Willowbrook Ford website, so is it cheaper yet if you are actually standing in the lot? :hick:
It would be interesting to know the story behind the original owner's intentions. I'm assuming that based on the mileage, condition and option content that it was purchased as a future collectible which makes me ask the question. Why the automatic?
Brent
have we seen this one before? another listing?
I think eric predicted things like this would start showing up more often during this economy.
I was saying a while back that I have seen these cars slowly going up in value. We'll see.I wish that we had a better aftermarket.I'd LOVE some resto parts, but,we just don't have the following the Mustang guys do to keep prices down.Wouldn't a "Fox Thunderbird/Cougar" catalog make you cry manly tears of joy.?.
Why not? The guy obviously wanted every option available. Im sure back in 1988 the car didnt have the community like it has now. Im also sure people didnt know how much autos sucked. Maybe they just wanted to cruise.
I would sob like a 5 year old.......
I'm really thinking about getting a loan and buying the thing........
If I were to sell my Mustang right now as it sits I'd ask for $19,000......
There is no way in hell I would pay $17,000 for one of these cars in 2009. In 2039 if you find me one in that condition with that mileage maybe, but not today....
THAT is a matter of personal preference. Shift kit, converter, hi rev governor, hardened input shaft, and setting the TV valve for holding gears for a bit = fun
with reliability from an AOD.
Quoted because I too have said this til Im blue in the mouth but I still love saying it :D
perfect 5.0 swap candidate.
Maybe I could talk him down :rollin:
I'm pretty sure the 4ALD sucks though. From what I've read they spit their guts with any sort of power. If I had the car I'd probably just keep it stock to preserve it. I have another T-bird to play with.....that needs the AOD fixed:hick:
It does say "bargain" on the window.
x2
Haystack the shiznit starter:rollin:
it was a joke, but I do like to poke more then I should.
I don't think they will be worth that in 2039. I really don't. No one wants them, they are only worth money to people like us who enjoy this. They never will have a real collectible value.
we have more then double the active users we used to have when I joined, and prices are going up. Time will tell.
I saw the link the OP posted, looked at a few pics, then moved on without a thought. Till just a few minutes ago, when I stumbled acoss the same car on fleabay.
Jeeze, it's like a time machine back to 1988...
If I was a serious collector, with a climate controlled garage...I'd buy it without blinking an eye.
I have a gut feeling that's why the dealer is asking a lot for it, because it's too nice to buy and drive everyday...
It's beautiful...and I say that pretty rarely about cars, and I detest white paint lol.
