need nos corked style valve cover gasket for a 2.3l 140 turbo 4cyl vin w.the new style rubber isn't holding, anybody have same problem.need info, insite.people tell me to go with the corked style.any part#- for a 86 cougar xr-7
The rubber one should seal, possibly your valve cover is warped... I've seen 2.3s with that problem...
I had the same problem with my 89 stang. I went to autozone today and got one for a 87 ranger with a 2.0L. It was cork and sealed good. I had a new fel-pro rubber gasket that wouldnt seal. It didnt make much sense to me because the gasket has steel shims in the bolt holes to keep you from over tighting and warping the cover or penching the gasket.
PS Ill have a part # tomorrow.
The cork will have more give for a more uneven mating surface, but the steel impregnated rubber gaskets will last much longer on average -- provided you can use them with your engine components. I've swapped my oil pan and valve covers over to the steel/rubber units. No issues as of yet....Oil pan gasket is coming up on 4 years.
what do you mean by new style 2.3 one?
ive read people use later ranger 2.3 rubber gasket(mid 90s or so) because they seal better than the older stang/tbird rubber ones.
this may be silly to ask but are the bolt holes clean? people tend to never think of things like that while they wipe down into them when cleaning the mating surface.
just a thought :/
I used the Motorcraft Ranger valve cover gasket on two different engines without any issues. I had that valve cover off at least 20 times and reused it each time.
My cork one lasted about a month before it pooched out by the intake, thoroughly bathing it in oil. Been using the blue rubber Fel-Pro unit ever since. Not a problem.
I like the fact that the rubber ones have the channel to keep it from walking, which the cork one will do.
If you can't keep the rubber ones sealed, start looking for the cause. If you've got to pull the cover again, possibly try another one, if you've got access to a spare.
why don't the rubber gasket holed, it leaks in the front of the valve cover. people tell me to used cork one. where can i get cork 2-3l gasket.
I got mine from AutoZone. FelPro part # VS 50126 C
I used 3M wheather strip adhesive to glue the gasket to the valve cover and black silicone in either corner of the first cam tower where the cam seal is.
thanks bruceM-cork 2-3 gasket solve the little leakage from the rubber style-any body have this problem with rubber gasket
