Post by: croga001 on September 21, 2009, 12:14:42 PM
im looking at an 88 parts car and was wondering what parts are beter than mine.
i know i want the rear end
would the 5 speed swap right over if i put the cable bellhousing on it?
is the computer beter?
upper lower intake?

give me some ideas on what is beter and what will swap over.

The computer is better, the motor is better, except for the turbo. The suspension is better (front control arms, rear axle, brakes).  The clutch cable is different, don't know if it's better or not.

What he said, plus, I think the body style is better too. :D

Just picking on you.... seriously though, if I was you, I would swap the 86 T3 turbo onto the 87 motor in place of the factory IHI. It's not too bad. There should be threads covering the swap, just do some searching.

From an interior perspective, I think it's about all interchangeable. It seems like every 87/88 interior part I've checked has had an E5 or E6 (85 or 86) P/N on it. So, you should be good to go there.

If you have the T5 now, just swap the transmission itself, but keep your clutch cable, bell, and pedals. The '87-'88 TC used a hydraulic clutch...

Although I'm not sure the difference is in the transmissions..I *think* they were all World Class 86 and newer...there's a chart that has the ratios, applications, and if a specific T5 was a WC variant, or not.

I'll see if I can find it for ya...

everything behind the doors is different inside the car. The seats will swap out. Door panels can be changed, but there will be some differances.

ok this parts car is long gone and im about to start swapping the newer computer into my car.  my car already has the motor and trans out i got my old bellhousing on the new t5. i just was just wondering whats all involved with putting the new computer in the 86.  do i keep my wiring and plug the la3 in or do i use the harness off the parts car?  am i going to have to cut and splice a ton to make this work?

You will have to repin the connector (at computer) if you keep the '86 harness. There's a schematic for repinning over at the NATO forums. It includes new things, such as the ACT sensor, which you will have to install in the manifold.
