I am selling my 84 Cougar with a 3.8 V6. The mileage showing on the odometer is just above 40,000. I don't know anything about the history of this car other than it was stored for many years. That and the overall condition of the car leads me to believe the miles are correct, but I can't be sure. I bought it about about 4 months ago and have only put about 300 miles on it. It is very clean with no rust.
The car runs fairly well most of the time, but occasionally will sputter and run rich. I never did figure out what causes this as it is occasional and I don't drive it much. It does also have a few parking lot dings. The previous owner touched up the dings where the paint chipped, but I don't like the way it looks. It isn't noticeable unless you are close to the car. The biggest ding is just behind the Cougar emblem on the passenger side. The headliner is a bit saggy. The trim surrounding the radio and A/C controls is cracked on the mounting points where someone overtightened the screws. The seat belt sleeves are cracked. There is 2 small slits in the console top. I put a digital clock in place of the buttstuffog, but the buttstuffog works fine and is in the trunk.
The car has new:
Fuel pump and filter
Spark plugs
TPS
Heater core
R134a conversion
EGR valve (used but works)
Even with the imperfections, this is a very nice car. Please look at the pictures and feel free to ask questions or request more pics of specific areas. I have various reasons for selling, but mainly the styling of the 83-84 cars just never did grow on me. Also, I would be tempted to so a V8 swap to it and I don't want to ruin its originality.
The price is $2000 or best offer.

Do the V-8 swap...
Nice car!!
man i wish i had the cash now for it. If i did you would have a sale and me taking a road trip.
Thanks guys. I hope it goes to a good home.
TTT Don't be afraid to make offers guys!
has it been hit in the front? has an '85 front header panel on it....
Nope. 83-84 cars had the waterfall grill, 85-86 cars had the butcher block grill.
yeah i know.... i didnt say grill... i said header panel.... where said grill bolts to.
I wasn't aware there was a difference in the panels. What is different about them? Do you know where the part# is on them?
pretty much a useless post...i was never a fan of the 83-86 cougars before, i like the 87-88's better. but that's a nice car. good luck with the sale.
the '83-'84's have an ornament that stands up, the '85-'86's lay flat on the header panel... maybe it is just the emblem that was changed?
You are mistaken. The stand up hood ornament is an 83 only thing.
TTT
How about $1600?
TTT
Reasonable offers?
I wish I had room...of course I would swap in the 5.0 HO I have laying in my garage.
TTT
Looking for reasonable offers...
Rust free car...

81-83 for small stand up ornament.
the box cats had stand up ornaments
this is one of the simplest EFI engine setup's to work on.
Your problems are prob as simple as the CFI base plate gasket. I love the 4eyed cougs miss mine although that dash does get a little boring to look at. a far cry from my two 87's. I to will talk a little and say "wish you were closer ect. The problem is that car is nearly mint for its year and would be a crime to fall into the wrong hands. I cant get another coug,, gotta get a bird for mason and an 87/88 coug for chance. wife wants an audi tt,, im screwed.
Thanks for the suggestion Scott. You reminded me that I had new gaskets and a new spacer in a CFI kit I had bought. I went ahead and replaced them even though the old ones looked fine. While I was doing that I bumped the TPS harness and the car started stumbling and running really rich. I moved it around some more and found that this was what was causing the poor idling at time. There is a broken wire in the harness. Here is a link to my Tech post; http://www.foxtbirdcougarforums.com/showthread.php?t=26105
Thanks again!
TTT
Car has been running great since I found that wire that wasnt making good contact in the TPS harness.
I wish you weren't so far away...that is a beautiful car and I'd have no hesitation adding it to my stable. Maybe it's a good thing that I don't actually have the room for it LOL.
TTT - Also may trade for an 86-88 V8 Cougar in decent shape
Eric, I'll cut you a killer deal on it if your interested ;-)
Bump!
Car now has a fully functional Tripminder and stereo from an 88 TC. Original clock and stereo are in the trunk in case it needs to be returned to stock. Mileage now reads 40585. It is 63 degrees so I cleaned it up and took some pics!

You drive it out here to Ohio in May and we've got a deal. ;)
When I was 17 and my folks and I were looking for cars, we took one home for the weekend that was exactly like that ('84, dark blue, light blue interior, V6). It left an impression for sure. Only reason we didn't get the car was because the dealership couldn't settle on a firm price...they kept screwing around, up and down with the price, so we left. It's too bad because we loved the car. But things happen for a reason.
Sold
Eric, send Alex out to go get it. lol
I'm in!
To the top! Somebody buy this from me!
If it doesn't sell soon I may just go park it in the lemon lot on the base with a for sale sign although I hate to leave it sitting outside.
Nice chrome mirrors...

the NADA lists it for low price $1375 ......average $ 2,300.....high $3350 for the condtion.
for a 1990 trade in value is $750.... private sale fair $1005..... average $ 1280.... excellent $1455 for the conditions. so a 1990 is a lower value car for some reason.
drive it out to me in salt lake, and I'll take a day or two off of work and drive it to ohio for eric if he fly's me back.
Sold
Just sold the car. It is going to be the guy's first car, but I think (hope) he treats it well.
send him here just incase :P
I am definitely planning on signing him up.
Wow, that's cool, good for you (and him). I'd have loved to have owned that car but things just wouldn't have worked out.
Since the car is sold, can we lock the thread or do you wish it to be deleted?
I was pretty bummed out about selling at but my wife said to just look at like I was giving the guy the gift of a Cougar for his first car and the obsession that comes with it.
Thanks Eric. You can just go ahead and delete this thread, I have no further use for it.
