I need a TV cable for a 87-88 5.0 T-bird or Cougar that has a column shifter. It's a bit different at the end that connects to the AOD than a floor shifter TV cable.
I have a TV cable out of a '91 Lincoln Mark VII on my car and it works great. The cable came with the engine I got from the Mark VII. It even had the Brass TV bushing and pin.
Is your car coulmn or floor shifted? The column shift cars have this goofy cable/bell crank TV set up. I might try a TV cable from a floor shifted fox (Mustang or Mark VII) to see if it works but I'd like to see if I can find the correct column shift cable.
My car is a column shift, but I believe the cable came from a floor shift Mark VII. I believe all Mark VII's in '91 were floor shift.
Well if it works for you it should work for me. Now I can get rid of that goofy bell crank set up:hick:
Mine still uses that goofy bell crank setup. The TV cable runs from the TB to the bell crank setup on the trans. The bell crank then actuates the TV lever via a rod.
That's the set up mine has. I thought the cable from a floor shift car was longer but I guess not if the one from a Mark VII fit.
I'm still looking for a stock 87-88 5.0 TV cable as the yards by me don't have any fox 5.0 cars. Someone is bound to have one and save me the trouble of digging one out from a car at the wreaking yard, if I find one ;)
I'll check the yard Saturday morning.I think that the one 5.0 '88 Bird still has it connected to the tranny.
You need the kind of cable that has a T-5 attached to the end of it! :burnout:
Good luck with the search, sucks I just trashed two TV cables.
If so could ya grab it for me? Finding a 5.0 fox car in the yards up here is like finding a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. :hick: I can't even find a 5.0 HO Mark VII let alone a 5.0 Mustang.
I no longer need one. I found a NOS TV cable at a Ford dealer in Kansas. It should be here Thursday :D
Wow....good find! If you don't mind me asking, how much did it cost at the dealer??
Cost of the cable is $94
Cost to ship it to Chicago is $8
Total cost $103:hick:
Yes I am crazy:crazy:
Not bad for a NOS Ford part...there can't be many left. Look at this way...you shouldn't have to replace it again for at least another 20 years :)
When it comes to the TV cable, and how important it is,$103.00 is a good price.Cheaper than a new or rebuilt tranny.
I saw a few on Ebay for about $70.00 for good used ones, and also, there are TV Cable corrector kits.
I just got it today. It's all pretty and new in it's bag;) I'll have to post up a pic later.
what does it have for a part # if i may ask?--irv
E7ZZ7F042A ?
I'll check when I get home from work tonight.
The part number is: E7SZ-7F042-A
It's the replacement part for an 87-88 T-bird/Cougar with a 5.0, AOD, and a column shifter.
i wonder if the ZZ # is for floor shift. that was the # given
in the 89 parts book for all 87-8 tbird and cougar w/aod.
could have been superceded? shouldnt make a difference
what shifter for a tv cable. hmm.
It could be. When we looked up the part at the Ford dealer the computer system asked if it was a floor of column shift. The ZZ number was for the floor shift and the SZ was for column shift.
