Do shorty headers...such as the BBKs...have a place for the factory oxygen sensor to screw into?? Most long tubes that I've looked at have a bung near the collector then you have to buy the extended sensor wires.
I'd rather just install shorties and use a standard fox body H-pipe w/ cats (required for inspection).
mustangs and mark7's have bungs in the hpipe assembly. You can also buy a kit to extend the o2 sensors, or just extend them yourself.
I dont know for sure but I would think that since the stock shorties use the H-pipe for location of the sensors the BBK would be a replacement and wouldnt have them.
You'll need to extend the wires even if you use stock Mustang shorties. T-Bird/Cougar manifolds have the bungs in them, while Mustangs (and any aftermarket headers made for Fox Mustangs) will not have any bungs, they're further downstream in the H pipe.
Thanks...that's what I was looking for!
Anxiety put to rest.........
If you need new o2 sensors, just buy the ones with the longer wiring.
It probably would be a good idea to just go ahead and repalce them anyway
I have Mac equal length shorty headers and a Mac H-pipe.......I do not run any wire extension on the o2 sensor harness. I use the Bosch oxygen sensors that come with the 12" wires. It makes for a cleaner install with less connectors. Your local parts store should have them in stock. If not they can order them. If not, it's time for a different parts store ;)
