It's a sad day.
My 83 is about to be a parts car. It's a shame too, it runs perfect, doesn't leak a drop of anything, I really trust that car. I drive it everywhere.
What happened? Well, when I bought it, was tricked, and I thought it was a nice low miles car with no rust. Well, the miles are accurate as far as I know, but the trick was, it had been painted. it was rusting through fast. I sanded and primered it in preparation to paint it again, and my prep is already rusted back through. That wasn't the kicker though...
I had a hitch put on, and my buddy said the underbody is pretty rusty. It wasn't before, I looked when I bought it! ohio... That was a year ago.
Lately, my seat developed the fox-lean, and I finally got sick of it. But upon closer examination, the seat is fine. The problem is the entire rear corner mount is gone and the seat is hanging out the bottom of the car!
Makes me sick. I swore that this cougar would be a keeper. I swore I'd drive it until it fell apart. It's near falling apart now and it hasn't even hit 100k miles yet!!
Just needed to vent. I'm probably gonna keep driving it for now, hopefully my ass doesn't get road-rash soon.
CoogarXR
sounds like its time to ship it to Jerry ;)
My thoughts exactly ;)
Call me a 'noob, but who's Jerry? I don't hang around here enough to know first names, lol.
ic, he's the hero of the rusty world. ;)
Oh, of course, heh. Duh.
I know how ya feel man, I had the same poblem with my 20th, I HATED parting it and letting it go.
That always sucks when you look under your car and see a ton of rust.
If you feel it can be saved and you have the skill and ambition....... Well, you know what I would say. LOL
I don't think the underside of my car looked this good when I bought it in 89. ;)

Find a good body to swap your drivetrain in to.That's an easy job.
Post up some pics if you can. The floorpan for the seat can be patched and welded up pretty easy.
Depends on how bad the rest of chassis is, I hate rust.
ya know, i actually feel for you on that.
ive had to pass up on quite a few good running cars because of rust(or more specifcally rot).
not that im afraid of it just that i dont have the means to fix it here on the street.
only two cars i had had bad rust(my 84 aerobortion vert and my turbo sprint) and it sucks because they ran great and if i had the place to i probly couldve fixed them, i had more than enough time to back then.
if what you say about how it runs is true and you have the means try to find a decent body for it. but your in ohio so that might be a stretch.
as i see it rust was created by god to taketh away some pretty good running cars :P
I just had a rear brakeline blow out on me last week. I had my mechanic replace it for me (I hate doing brakelines!). While he had it up on the rack, I was looking at the floorpans, and I might have overreacted. It looks more like a L-shaped crack than a rust hole. It could certainly be fixed, with a welder that I don't have. More about that later...
Welp, I have a friend who is multi-talented and I asked him if he knows anything about welding. He says that he does, and that I could come over right now!
Short story is, there actually was like 5 cracks, but not much rust after all. He welded all of the cracks, now my seat sits straight as a whistle :)
Hopefully it lasts a while...
Hey, that's great news!! Glad to hear your car is back in business. Just keep taking care of it and you'll both be happy.
I hope the welds were painted? I'd put it up on jackstands, start sanding and spraying away. This will at least help you know what may need work and also help you know exactly what everything is looking like down there. I hope to steam clean my entire underside here soon, roughen it up, and give it some fresh epoxy. We don't really rust over here though.
Glad it wasn't as bad as it looked, if you haven't painted the welds do it for sure. I h8 rust...
Yep, the welds were painted top and bottom.
