Title: My new 88 xr7
Post by: DamonSlowpokeBaumann on August 27, 2009, 12:39:04 AM
Well I started doing a lil work on my new car.  It  has a few dents on one side.  Molding is a lil yellow and there is rust in the strangest of places.  The metal window trim was chipping and there is some misssing paint..Oh and one centercap has a crack as well as the grill...But for $500 bucks it was a steal

The interior is flawless except for some wear on the drivers seat and the usual seat/mirror metal plate area haviung some chipping paint.  There is also the usual crack or two in the dash board
The passenger seat and rear seat look as though it rolled of the showroom floor as does every other single interior peice.  It still has the factory radio and EQ!!!!

As far as what I have done thus far....CLeaned entire interior with tuff stuff.  After 20 plus years everything tends to collect dirt.  It looked clean when I bought the car but after cleaning it..The interior is three shades lighter!

Exterior wise I clay bar'd and waxed the hood, trunk, upper fenders and quarter panels.  I will do the rest when I get some more time but  wanted to see a visual difference for now.  The paint felt rough and is now smmoooottthhh.  I dont know what people used to do before the clay bar!....What appeared to be white paint spewed off ton sof orange from just claybarring it..Pollen and such I guess that was built in.  I'll take some after photos but this is what I had taken before the transformation..Which will involves zero $ investment and using only what I have lying around!!!!!

I dont plan on fixing the dents..Just touching up here and there making it more presentable Here are the before photos

One more..You will also notice the rear bumper pushed in on the bottom...The betal plate the fiberglass support is bolted onto is bent...Ill be working on that this weekend as well as toucing up the white paint.  I already did the window trim amd along with the wax made a huge difference

Well for now Just make it look a lil nicer.

I'd like to throw some snowflakes on her!! Unfortunately it has brand new bridgestone potenzas!

I'd do the brake upgrade..But the brakes are brand new as well!!!!

One valve cover weeps a bit so I think Ill do an HO upper and TB when I do the gaskets..Whenever I do that.

The drivers side control arm seems to make a lil noise..Sounds like a bushing..SO perhaps sn95 arms with fox balljoints

I am seriously for now only going to change things as needed..

Unfortunately I have things sitting on shelves that may make  me think otherwise...But I must refrain..TO many projects as it is:O)..I need a driver!

Yup, Blackened 300A. He sent me a pic of a DPB MM that is used as a cab in the Bronx. One day I'll make it up that way to meet him.

I used SOS pads on the white rubber side molding and it cleaned them up great.  Just don't hit the paint.
