Title: k-member Questions..And I did Search Already!
Post by: DamonSlowpokeBaumann on August 16, 2009, 02:14:41 AM
Well I've owned my 87 cougar xr7 going on 15 years now and have finally decieded to revisit it as it sits in my driveway.  Being allot of the modifications I have done within the first 5 years of owning the car I'm assuming things have changed with people experimenting and what not....Sooo

I was reading up on the tubular kmember threads and have a few questions I guess.

When I did my tubular K member back in 1998 or so I used one made for a 94-95 Mustang.  Originally I just wanted it for clearence of my turbo system but I just couldnt get my stock control arms to work (no amount of comfortable grinding made them fit).  So I ordered up some sn95 control arms and wallaahh..Done.

What I dont get I guess is why people had to do modifications or shimming to make one work.  As i recall mien went in just fine with no modifications.

So can someone tell me what had to be done exactly..I havent had any issues but I want to make sure never put many miles on the setup.

The car went through various setuos but as it sits it has a full griggs suspension (torque arm, panhard, control arms, coil overs etc) Still 4 lug but that may change..

So any ideas?

Thanks

Damon

I put a D&D tubular from an 87-93 Fox on my 87 'bird and had to make shims to fit between the framerails and k-member.
