Title: Roof Console?
Post by: Watchdevil on August 14, 2009, 10:05:54 AM
Did any of the Turbo Coupes come with an optional roof console? For some reason I remember someone mentioning one but I could not find it listed in any of the original sales brochures.

All moonroof-equipped models had a roof console. They were the only ones that had it. The console housed the roof switches.

You can always install an Explorer one like I did. It works pretty well:

If I just wanted the compass and temp, it wont need a VSS wired in to function properly?

I got the full digital dash for that.

P.S. that install looks great.

It only has the compass and temp. I think it uses the VSS to know that it's moving to keep the compass updating and calibrating, as it does not display any speed or economy related info

Thanks for the reply fellas! I was just wondering if I was imagining things or was having a brain fart getting confused with classic Thunderbirds which did have the roof consoles.

I did see an Explorer at Pull-A-Part with the roof console but I wondered what the function was of the screen in the forward part.

The main reason I asked about it is I know of a 87-88 Turbo couple in another salvage yard I visited not too long ago and I wanted to go back to look at it if there was a factory roof console.
