Title: Clutch kit recommendations
Post by: xjeffs on August 08, 2009, 12:10:59 PM
There are a ton of different kits out there and I'm wondering what the general opinions are for a good street clutch that won't make your leg tired at the end of good drive around town for the day.  My 5.0 plans are over 300 ft-lbs.

I've found Centerforce, King Cobra, Zoom, Stage 2 and 3 and many other clutch kits.

Anyone have opinions on what I should buy?

Thanks

Jeff

The recommendation I was given by D&D Performance out of Wixom MI was a King Cobra.  I was making 330 lbs of torque to the wheels at that time.  The question to me was "will you be using sticky tires at the track".  My answer was yes.

The pedal is light, no issues with engagement or slipping.  I continue to have no issues even with a substantial power up grade.

The price point was considerably less than some of the other clutches you have mentioned.

I found the clutch cable to be the critical factor for a light pedal.  Thw BBK adjustable I had was really stiff (it had to be binding).  I purchased a non-adjustable Ford Motorsports unit from Maximum Motorsports and used a fire wall adjuster.  It been great since.

I run a spec stage 2 and it's pretty stiff. but it doesn't slip either.
I've always heard good things about king clutch.

Thanks for the thoughts.  The guys at the mustang forums are really big on centerforce, too.

I run spec stage 3 plus but thats a little over kill for 300 foot pounds of torque. Even with the stage 3 plus the pedal is not too hard to push.
