Title: buying a car that sat outside sucks :)
Post by: fordguy on July 26, 2009, 04:58:04 PM
when i picked up the bird i knew it had a squirrel or rat living in the engine compartment, all the sticks and leaves for the nest were still there.  well turns out it was a squirrel- with newborns-3 of them. the dog sniffed them out. they were inside the wheelwell between the plastic liner and the body. also found the mother, or what was left of her. must have died after birth, the ants ate her up. ants suck, they got in the car. i cut the carpet to check out the pans- no rust, thats good.ants in the car- about 20 or so red/black ants that i could see( and prob eleventybillion that i couldn't )- that's bad. do bug bombs kill ants? this is gonna suck!! :punchballs:

anyone else get pets with their car?

Mine had a mouse nest under the upper intake when I bought it, and the air cleaner box was full of seeds of some sort. And it was stored inside.

When I bought the house and laid the T-Bird up in my garage a squirrell made itself at home in the blower motor housing. It actually built a nest in the "squirrellcage". I wasn't about to pull the whole heater box out to fix it, so I just snipped the plastic grille off on three sides, moved it up out of the way, scooped out the nest, then put the grille back in place.

Here's what was left of the nest:

yeah, i have acorns in mine. whenever you turn the car to run the flap in the box opens and acorns fall out. how the hell do they (squirrles) get in there?

I've had to bug bomb an old pontiac I used to have. It worked fine for me, no problems.

Make sure you got all of momma out of there asap... The smell of decaying rat is the hardest thing to get rid of. Fixing all the wiring they chewed up is a piece of cake compared.

How do you guys have pests getting into your cars? My T-bird sits in a garage all winter and I've never had a rodent problem.

Your garage probably isn't built from an old barn ;) Living in the boonies probably doesn't help me either...

No but it's still a 53 year old garage ;) It's in a metro area though so that might help.

My XR-7 sat outside untouched for at least 8 years. It had a huge (rat?mouse?squirrel?) nest on top of the gas tank, another in the air cleaner, and another inside the passenger fender. Judging by the acorns and poop on the passenger floor mat, there is another in the dash somewhere.

Something is dead in there, I can smell it.

mice and rats r problems here on the farm. got bout 15 cats that do nothing but laze around . got my dachshund almost a year ago and he brings two to three mice/rats on the pourch a day . in current process of getting rid of the worthless cats. giving them to people not killing them. lol . but yes mice/rats r problems in the sticks. would love to have a roddent free garage full of prodjects preferably 4 of them my t-bird and one for each kid to teach them the value of turning a greasy wrench (values most kids dont get nowadays) my oldest son wants a stang . my youngest son wants my 2000 f-150. and i think my daughter will convert from a stang to a bird or cougar:D and yes she wants to learn to build a car shes daddys girl for a reason

i had ants get into my car after i took 2 gigantic bags of soda cans to the s yard.  well i didnt realize it but it leaked out of the bag on the rear parcel tray and all over the back of my driver side seat.  the ants beat me to the discovery.  i started squashing them as i saw them... in the search for them i found all the gooey soda residue, cleaned it all up and then hit the entire carpet, under the seats, behind them, all over with wasp killer spray.  the stuff that will spray like 10-15ft.  i also coated the bottoms of my wheels with the spray and moved the car.  havnt seen a ant since and the spray fumes werent an issue since it was a convertable.

those bags are FULL of CRUSHED soda cans.  16 dollars worth as it turned out.. ive given up saving cans if the price per lb is like 55 cents or less.
