Title: Me and my 83 Thunderbird 5.0 Heritage (taken 1987)
Post by: MY83T on July 23, 2009, 08:15:10 PM
Hi all, im new to this forum, but actively post on the TorinoCobra forum for my 1970 Torino GT Convertible, but i thought it was time my T-Bird got some attention.  This is a shot of me and my car in 1987.  Still have it and it still runs.  Needs paint, but interior is in nice shape.  All options but Moonroof.  Even has the original TRX wheels. My pic has American Racing Outlaw II wheels on the car back then.

Oooooooh I am soooo jealous! I have loved the 70-71 Torinos for a looong time. Welcome to the site! Where did you find that hood tach (Is that what that is?).

Thanks for the kind words......the hood tach was made by Dixco and added by the dealerships, but they were never factory installed. They had small ribbon tach's as a factory option, but they were small and poorly designed and placed.  As for updated shots of the T-Bird, i have the car in dry storage, but i will try and get to it over the next few weeks and get you guys some pics.  David

Who says? I still wear aviators, and was looking for a jacket similar to that when I had my Mustang.

The pic is awesome.

Fair enough I have a pair of aviators. Much better than those white Oakley's.

Cool Torino.

Keep us updated on the progress of your Bird !

My very first T-Bird was a 83 Heritage w/TRX package, 5.0 and side markers and vent windows like yours. I got it in 1992.

Like yours, mine was in storage units for the last 10 years and I recently got it out and am converting it to a 1983 Mustang GT 5.0 H.O. setup, but with an AOD.

Alan, thats some list of rides you have!  I decided i am keeping my Bird bone stock.  No mods.....there seem to be so few survivor original cars, i cant bear to mod it.  My paint scheme, in silver with all the bright work, grill, sideviews, and trim as well as TRX wheels, make the car a streamlined silver bullet.  Perhaps i can find a 83-86 Fox body down the road and mod that one out.... My Torino and T-Bird are about all the wife can bear, and with a 7 year old and a new baby on the way, i cant surprise the wife with any new toys!  I will post up some new pics on Monday night of the car in its current state.
Thanks for the kind words.....David

When I started fixing mine, It was going to just stay stock. Then I did a little mod here, a little mod there, and before I knew it, it's all new and modded, LOL
But to the untrained eye, it will appear stock until you look underneath.

Cool bird and very cool vert!! It seems like most guys have more than one awesome Ford product tucked away. I think old Fords are like potato chips, you just can't stop at one. lol. Can't wait to see more shots of the bird!!

Thanks!  My hope is to get the Bird up and running by next season, but lack of time and funds are always a problem.  (Baby on the way in December)

You are running American Racing Outlaw II's ? Thats what i was running back then....i have the original TRX wheels back on the car now. They need to be refinished and restored, no curb rash though, thank goodness.  By the way, you have a awesome ride for 19 or any age, and great taste in cars beyond your years! :-)

Thanks!  I really wanted a stand out car, and the Mustangs are so common.....(i love all Fords) i just wanted a conversation starter, so i suppose thats why i love the Fox Birds as well as Torino's.  Something different at the car shows......

Dat's real purdy... I like it a lot...

After they are 20-25 years old or so, mostly original cars should remain stock... One day, a lot of guys will be "wishin" they had some of the stock items they tossed...

I think you are right... car is only original once.  Considering there seems to be so few survivor cars in the North East (rust belt) i cant bear to mod my car.  I think the value and relevance of these cars is understated and that will change to in the near future.
