I was digging through some old Lincoln/Mercury dealer mags and found this gem:

Now...this by itself is a pretty cool thing to find.
But it gets better:
The article is from September 1985.
Gorant Candies is from my area and still exists.
The dealership in the article was in my area (it's since changed names but is in the same location).
It was the same dealership where my first '84 was purchased, both new and used.
And the former owner of my '84 was a schoolteacher.
Hrmmmm....
Cue the Twilight Zone music...
You are about to enter a strange world..........;)

That is Cool. I bet that would have been one of those ones that was to cool to eat.LOL

The good ole days. There is no way dealerships would do anything cool like that now being that they are struggling the way they are. One question...how did they clean all that chocolate off?
My guess would be hot water. Or somebody got to lick it off :hick:
Is there a Niles, OH or were they referring to Niles, MI? We bought my wife's car last year from Campbell Ford in Niles, MI. Either way, neat article.
There is a Niles, OH. It's adjacent to Warren, OH. Both towns were named after the U.S. presidents that grew up there (Niles McKinley and Warren G. Harding) and are recognized historically as such.
Incidentally, I live near Campbell, OH.
Man...this just keeps getting stranger...LOL
That's pretty wild.
So is that white chocolate covering the chrome parts?
Eric, do you remember the promotion at the time?
Brent
I would guess the chrome is white chocolate also. Unfortunately I don't remember the promotion at all, although it was probably in the local newspapers at least. I was 14 at the time and hadn't yet begun to hang around dealerships. ;)
you should follow up on this whole chocolate car thing,... maybe you can find the actual chocolate covered car, and have it as a collectors piece!!! lol
I don't think hot water would have been a good idea. All of that melting chocolate seeping into all of the body crevices. That car would smell like chocolate for years.
I'm thinking they might have first layed down a barrier of some sort, maybe some parchment paper, and then when the promotion was done "peeled" it off in sections.

That's a great article, I like how it all ties in with you. Makes a great story!
