Title: Total noobish rear axle question
Post by: Metal Matt on April 08, 2005, 11:01:22 AM
Meh, the only way to learn is to ask so here goes...

I've been doing some research this morning about gears etc for my car.  I've read that you can do an entire 8.8 swap in place of the 7.5 that I have in my 87 5.0 tbird, but can you just simply swap out gears for something taller and better?  I read that 3.08 will fit, but what other options do I have?

Thanks in advance, you guys are always a huge help

You can get almost any gear set for your 7.5', but the gears have to be for a 7.5" rear. 8.8" gears will not work.

My Ranger has 4.10s. Doesn't that have a 7.5 also?

The Aerostars often have 7.5s with 3.73 or 4.10 gears. My long '93 has the 4.10s while my shortie '88 has 3.73s.
