Title: U-joints
Post by: 87 3.8 CAT on April 08, 2005, 04:52:56 AM
I'm going to be checking and more than likely replacing the u-joints this weekend. I notice a pretty consistent thump when I let off the accelerator fast or step on it fast. I've had similar problems with previous cars, and though I haven't checked them yet, I'm thinking they are pretty likely bad.

Are these pretty simple to change on the Cougars? They were on my old Dodge and Pontiac. Hoping not much different.

Same old, same old.I aways jack up the rear of the car so the fluid doesn't leak from the tailshaft. If you've never done it on this car,now is a good time to replace the rear seal. They don't cost much.

Yup, same.  If you have not ordered the new ones yet I would suggest getting some with grease fittings.
