Title: 3G pulley stuck big time
Post by: mcb82gt on July 09, 2009, 06:32:00 PM
I cant get this larger pulley off this  thing. Pb blaster and MAPP gas and nothing works, Used my elect impact and tried 1/2 inch ratchet with a 2 foot cheater pipe.

Did some of these things come with a press on pulley?  It is coned in on the end of the bolt ?

I eventually got it off.  I now figured out my 2g pulley hits the alternator housing and wont work.  Gotta order a new pulley I guess.

Nope you need a washer. The one that is on your 2G alt should work.

Wont that skew the alignment of the serp. belt?  causing it to ride on the back side of the pulley?

Well, if the last pulley was a serp pulley and didn't hit...

You need to compare where the old pulley sat vs where the new one does on your new alt.

The old pulley that was on the 3g was very large.  I wanted to switch to the smaller one that was on my 2g.  On a flat surface, both pulleys were equal, belt wise, but the 2g has a different curve on the back of it that causes it to hit the housing.

Whatever thickness I need to shim it out, will push it that distance past correct.

Eventually got the nut off.  Installed the new 3g pulley and all works well.  Charging at idle was 14.7 volts.
