Title: swapping dash harness
Post by: Beau on July 09, 2009, 02:21:17 AM
Not sure if I need/should swap my dash harness, as I don't plan to have an AC, and probably going to leave the heater box out as well.

The Sport originally had the EATC set up in it, but I was wondering if it would be feasible to pull the dash harness from my white 3.8 car, since it had the manual style heat/AC controls. Thinking I'd rather have the wiring there if I ever decided to put the heater stuff in at a later date...basically wondering if it's even worth swapping the wiring..? Mainly wanting to get rid of wiring that I for sure won't ever use, and for simplicity's sake, weight savings, etc.

Would it just be easier to take the climate control wiring out, and leave the rest, possibly even add the manual style wiring back to it?

I'll have to check some diagrams and my evtm to see if I'll need to repin the cluster harness, since I swapped an buttstuffog inst cluster into the white car 3 summers ago...hopefully I can leave it as-is. I'm going to use that cluster, as I've done some work to the lighting on it...it's better than the green it used to be. ;)

Ummm... I'm not sure if there is a different dash harness in the EATC cars or just a "add on" for that system(prob different)... The plenum assemblys are totally different... Guessing it wouldn't be that hard to adapt a std system to the EATC wiring since all you really need is power for the blower, the remainder is cable or vac control...

So it all depends on what you want to do, but for maybe a half pound of wiring difference, I wouldn't be pulling the dash out...
