Going the weight savings route, in addition to an electrical gremlin I just CAN'T seem to nail down.

Well FordTruckFreeek you might be in luck then. I just so happen to have a set of non power front seat tracks from my old 88 cougar. Those should work. They were the bench type buckets. If you want them drop me a PM or something. If you don't want them post here so someone else could have a chance at them.
