My A/C compressor is slowly ping out, so I'm going to get a new one and switch to R134 in the process.
So far I have these things on my list:
- A/C compressor w/ clutch
- O-ring/gasket kit
- Orifice tube w/ liquid line
- Accumulator w/ hose attached
At Rockauto.com there are accumulators and receivers/driers. These are both the same thing, right?
Is there anything else that should be replaced? The A/C system was not maintained very well before I got the car, so I don't mind replacing some more parts if that benefits the A/C system.
You look to be in pretty good shape. Don't forget to add the appropriate type/amount of oil to the system.
I assume you have access to an vacuum pump to evacuate the system before charging it?

Our cars use Accumulators, not Reciever/Driers. Get the Accumulator assembly with the hose already attached.
Don't forget about the Discharge line that runs from the Compressor to the Condenser, if yours is in bad shape.
I'm not going to evacuate the system myself, someone else will do that. I'm just collecting the necessary parts.

I will add to upgrade to the Auto adjusting orifice tube. It will work better with the R134a "get colder" than the stock R12 type. Then another thing to consider is using an extra electric fan out front or use 94-95 Mustang R134a condenser. Also make sure you buy the stuff and Flush all the older parts you might be reusing. I reused all factory parts except for the "dryer & seals" and all has been good for 3+years now.
