Mounting tab is different. Ran 87-88 on my car for a while, pretty sure it was just the tab that was different.

Do you need the washer fluid tank AND the overflow tank? I have both off an 87-88.

from what i've seen~
83's Had a Squared coolant overflow tank on the fender wall opposite the side the battery sits.
84's Had the same thing except the tank style changed to a more rounded version.
87's Had a Tall skinny coolant tank mounted in front of the radiator.
And Most TC's Have the tall skinny tank mounted next to the battery i think.
That's the major differences i've noticed at least.

Im not familiar with pre 86. I do know that you can make 87-88 work on 86.

If you wanted to covert to the tall front mount overfill I dont think it would cause an issue, I still have the hose on it too. As for washer fluid you would have to either remove the fender or try and shove it up there.

Might clean up the engine bay a little swapping to later stuff.

Not wanting to hi-jack a thread but does anyone know where to get a low washer fluid sensor for this style tank?

That looks like the one that 83's have (The ones i've seen).

And a Tall Skinny will work on pre '87 with some minor tweaking/drilling.
/\I picked one up at the yard awhile back and have yet to install it, But when i test fit it in front of the radiator where it would be on an 87-88~It had the top hole already lined up and notches for the others~Just need to tap and thread. (Be sure to get the small metal bracket along with the tank)

Not sure about battery tray placement but would probably be just as easy, if not easier~Just be sure to get the mounting brackets.

As for the '83 versus '84, They look to be mostly the same minus styling.

I'm looking for a new coolant overflow tank for my '87 V6 Cougar.  From what I've been able to determine so far, I think the V6 & V8 cars have different set ups.  In fact, aren't the battery locations opposite as well?

Anyway, my car has coolant overflow tank mounted to the engine compartment inner fender next to the radiator.  I believe 2 screws hold the tabs to fasten it and there's a slot or 2 on the bottom.  The rubber overflow hose is only about 6" exposed.

I have no problem using something different, I just need it to fit.

I can take a photo of what I have if needed to clarify...

Thanks!
