Title: explorer heads?

i heard that the 5.0 explorers had a version of the gt-40 heads, the gt-40p's is this true? and would they work on a '78 351w? thanks for the help guys

it tis true. 97s up had the gt-40ps. they require special headers because of revised spark plug location. mountaineers have them too.

And those special headers may prove impossible to find for a 351. Also, you'd have to enlarge the head bolt holes 'cuz 302's use smaller head bolts than 351's

could you use the stock manifolds? i was told i needed headers to complete my 351 swap but the manifolds clear as far as i can tell

i've heard of ppl using 'shortie' spark plugs to clear with some headers. that and 90* angle boots. some of the primaries may need to be 'dinged' if you still go the header route. i kinda missed the 351 part. oops. sorries.

I believe all the stock Ford heads are drilled for 1/2" bolts so they should bolt on a 351 no prob. I'm 99% sure the 5.0s use a shouldered 7/16" bolt with these heads...
