Title: T-Bird: 1 Deer: 0
Post by: 302 PWR on June 20, 2009, 09:39:15 AM
Boy do I have a story to tell. About 3 hours (4:00am) ago I was on the highway heading north to visit my mother for the weekend, the road is fairly flat and straight and double lane so the speed limit is 110 (70mph). Okay I'm not really in a story telling mood right now as I have other things on my mind. I caught a deer out of the corner of my eye, he was heasitating to cross the road so I started slowing down but alas it was too late, I swerved to the left to avoid and applied some even brake pressure but the  ran right in front of me, I think I hit him going about 90km.

It all happened so quickly in about 3 seconds in this order:

-saw deer
-braked and swerved
-bang
-me swearing
-pulled over to the side of the road, radiator starting steaming
-shut car off
-swear some more
-throw hazards on

Yeah kind of like that. I got out and inspected the damage, still furious at the deer I ran over and kicked it a few times and said the most unholiest of words you can think of.

I need a new hood, new fender, new header panel, new lights (etc), new rad support, new rad, new fan, new fan shroud and a few other things.

And I know you all want them so here they are:

I took the rad out as I needed something to do between the chain smoking and the cursing, also I had to wait 2 hours for my ride.

Jerry I think I'm gonna need some advice on this one.

Looks like more of a tie to me.

Sucks it was a 4-eye too.

I'm sure you can get it sorted though.  The biggest issue will be getting the core support straight again I imagine.

Yeah thats my biggest concern right now, and not really a tie as I did kill it, but it did shiznit on my car.. It also temporarily killed the T-Bird though.

man that sucks! You havent even had the car 2 months have you?
I know where a running/driving 4 eye bird is here in nc. He wants $300 for it. Im sure thats a little far for you to travel though

Yep, not even 2 months. And it does suck, a lot, I'm still shaken up about it. Looks like I'll be driving my dads Civic for a month or two. :punchballs:

Yeah thats a bit of a drive. I can find all the parts here though, I know of a yard chalk full of foxes.

, good luck finding your parts. If you need some small stuff I will be glad to ship it for ya. I know where one or two 4 eyes are in the junk yards down here.

That sucks!  If you would've hit it straight on I could imagine less damage.

If you happen to be passing thru western NY I have a hood you are welcome to. I have a header panel also but it has a crack in it, along with the h/l bucket and all the pieces with it.

If I did hit it straight on I think it would have rolled up on the hood, thru the windshield and in with me. But there would probably less structural damage. Either or I'm thinking I need a bottle of J.D. and some blues music right now.

Thanks for the offer Dan but I'm not planning on going thru New York anytime soon. I guess the plus side for the hood damage is I can get a T.C. hood.

Well that curled part of the fender cut the belly open on it, hence the shiznit and blood, theres also hair everywhere.

The bumper survived however the turn signal is crack which sucks because it was clear and crack free, but I have bigger problems right now than a turn signal cover. My game plan right now is find a rad at a junk yard out here and take it to my dads and start tearing it apart. I might have to throw a fender and a headerpanel on and then fix the rad support down the line, not the smartest thing to do but its my only way of transportation right now as the Cougars motor is blown. I need money and quick; I should win the lottery like my old man did, that solved some of his problems.

Lol no, spent it on his Harley's and his truck, and his back-hoe aaaand his dump truck. I tried to convince him to get a muscle car as a father son build but he'd rather play with his over sized Tonka machines.

As for the damage on the car I've been looking at a few other members car that have managed to take out a Bambi and from the looks of things I got lucky, especially for the speed I was going.

I'd be eating that bitch. If it's gonna cost me a car I'm gonna get some meat out of it, even if it was only a chop or two...

I suppose it wouldn't be in good taste to post the pics I took in my yard yesterday...

Oh well, nobody ever accused me of being tasteful :D

Ugh, deer.

My XR-7 was a deer victim, that's how I ended up getting it. The guy's daughter hit a deer (and then skidded into something else I imagine). She was too scared to get in it again, so the dad parked it and let it sit for years and years. They only had liability coverage on it, and since she didn't want it, he didn't fix it. This pic is how I found it, with only 32k miles on it:

At least yours still rolls. I had to replace a strut and inner tie rod (and I really should replace the rim too, it pretty banged up). I had to replace the passenger fender, header panel, and hood. I may have to replace the bumper support too, something still doesn't look right. I have it cobbled together right now until my appointment at the body shop to have the unibody laser aligned. Then everything should fit nice.

If you need the front end straightened, shop around at different body shops. I got a variety of prices ranging from $120 to $500+. I find it helps to dress like a bum so they think you don't have much money, heh...

Eventually it will get it aligned but being a 19 year old and living on your own money is scarce. (Not a plea or anything, I'm deadset on getting this done by myself but I appreciate you guys offering me parts, this is what makes this community so great).

But for right now I need to know which fenders fit, I'm assuming all 83-88s, and if I get a 87-88 I'm sure the trim will be off but that's okay, I just want the car drivable right now. I also have to find a fairly rust free fender which is gonna be a real bitch.

The killer about this happening is how good of shape the car was in, all gaps correct, no door sag, the car was in  near perfect shape in my eyes. Just a little set back is all but still kind of depressing.
I also have the Cougar for parts if it comes down to that, I've been considering parting it out but since it's my first Fox I'm quite attached to it.

Bummer to hear that, man.  Sorry.

I'll bet the deer had a few choice words, too.

Please explain this story! lol

to make it short, I was riding with a buddy in his mint 71 F100 flying down a country road after dark (high school days) and out of nowhere comes this black cow and with no time to stop we plowed right into her hitting her with the right front causing us to go into a sideways slide we stopped just in time to see her roll off to the side of the road before the dust covered everything. was scary as hell for a couple of 16 year old new drivers.
