Started working on my cougar this past week and the ignition tumbler ped out. Not a large deal at the moment as I have others here as spares so it is still operational. Here is my ? though. I have the original key which says turbo and of course it works the doors also. Do you guys think there is a way to fix the tumbler so I keep the same key for doors/ignition or am I condemned to the world of seperate keys for all my locks? Thanks
I think you're doomed to having two keys or buying another lock set...........which I just happen to have for sale in the classifieds.LOL.
Check with a local locksmith that does auto work, they should be able to get you an uncoded ignition switch, and key it to your existing key.

Bill's got it...that can be done.
I think a lock smith can rekey an ignition possibly.
I used to repin the five tumbler types(pre '86)nothing to it, but have never messed with the later ones... As stated a locksmith, should be able to repin one for your key(actually I believe they have little discs in them)... If your keys are badly worn, I'd consider swapping out the complete set... You could also have the locksmith make a fresh key(easy if you have the code), so you wouldn't have to change the door locks...
Doesn't it only use one side of the key to operate the lock?
If so you could have one side cut for the ignition and the other side cut for the door.
You could put a notch in the handle so you could tell which side was which.
