Title: my heater is killing my altenator
Post by: raser13 on April 06, 2005, 01:24:18 PM
o.k. her it is , i've got aan '84 t-bird with the 5.0L  i've converted the anolog dash to the digital and have changed the heater controls from the slide bar type to the turn dial type out of '90's series taurus i've also upgraded to a 75 volt altenator. here is the problems, first off when i turn the blower control to anything but high the air just trickles out and as far as i can tell it has no affect on the power system on the car (it also did this with the slide bar type of controls), when i turn it on high it comes out full blast but the charging system goes from charging at 14-15 voltz to about 6 voltz. any ideas as to what could cause the speed selecto not to work?or what might cause the power drain?  thanks in advance :dunno:  :shoothead

The speed selection problem is very likely the blower motor resistor. Open your glove box, squeeze the two sides together until it drops completely down, and you'll find your blower resistor attached to the heater box.

As for the current draw, cover the basics first: Check the battery cables and grounds. You might also want to check the battery itself. If all of that is good, chances are your alt took a dump.
