Title: 2.3T Rev issues
Post by: Carl on June 15, 2009, 08:50:47 PM
My 86 XR7 is having trouble starting unless I pour a little gas in the manifold first. Then it idols fine but cuts out whenever I try to rev the engine.

If I gradually rev it up to say 3,000 rpm it wont cut out. Anything more than gradual and its shuts off.

Anyone know what could be wrong?

My initial thoughts would be insufficient fuel pressure or a faulty TPS.

Probably a TPS issue... Too much TPS voltage will signal the EEC to activate the "dechoke mode" and shut off the injectors while cranking...

You need to scan it for codes...

Have you checked FP yet?

I bought a new holley FP and will be putting it in soon if the fuel pump currently in there is bad. I will also check the TPS. Thanks for the inputs!
