Spotted an '86 LSC for sale in town today, while I was up picking up some parts for my dark blue Bird. Figured I'd head back up there and get the number and look the car over.. got up there, the for sale sign said $400 OBO. Well hot , that's about how much I was hoping to get out of my 351. Maybe I could work something out. Got all excited and everything, even as sick as I've been lately. (can barely walk at times)
Exterior was serviceable, had a different hood and quarter panels on it (I'm guessing wreck) and the only rust was in a few spots at the back window. Needed new tires. Interior was in much better condition than my '88 Bird, but has a few rips/cracks/whatever.. and it's missing a door panel. 138k miles. (30k less than either of my Birds) This was getting better and better.
So then the owner drives up as I'm looking it over and talking to a friend on the phone about the car, and said he had just sold it today to some guy who wants to rip the engine out and stuff it in a Rustang. There's where my luck comes in. Mentioned the possibility of a 3-way trade, my 351 to the buyer in exchange for the intact LSC, but apparently the guy wants it because it's EFI and his car's CFI. Poop. At any rate, I asked the seller to let me know if the guy was willing to part with the rest of it for next to nothing once he got the engine out of it. (and maybe the trans too.. seller said 3rd and OD were fried.. but I still have a C6 available to me if needed) If nothing else, maybe I can stuff my carbed 351 and the C6 into it and make another running car out of it.. or part it out and use what I can, sell the rest.. who knows.
There's still the other 87-88 T-bird in town.. and I finally have most everything in order to get my '88 running again. Just have to figure out all the vacuum connections to the upper intake, without the benefit of an EVTM.. and figure out a way to hammer out that crooked driver's side pre-cat.
What engine have you got in the '88? I can get you a vacuum diagram easily enough...
The 88 is my 5.0.
Here ya go:
Dump that 351/C6 combo in the LSC after he takes what he wants. More cars=more fun!
Thanks.. but I see five "MAN VAC" connections there, and I have 8:

I had about half of it figured out. The two tiny connections were found. (FPR and some other connection) I know I need to redo the line to the charcoal canister. (although there was a 6mm line on a 10mm connection) I know the PCV, and the MAP, and one that connected to some little vacuum manifold the previous owner said he had to replace.. but that leaves me with two more large connections. Was there a vacuum line that ran from that little T in the bottom left of that picture up to the connection in the middle of the manifold, to the right? I *think* I remember one being there, but I'm not sure.
Possibly. Could also use it for a 5-lug conversion and 8.8" swap for my '88.
If the LSC has been wrecked (having newer quarter panels and a hood makes me wonder) and my '88 hasn't, and my '88 has a pretty solid rust-free body, which do you think should get the majority of the attention? My '88's problems are mostly cosmetic.. paint's shot, leather's shot.
This is assuming the stang guy doesn't decide he wants to part out the LSC and Ebay everything he can or something like that. This is assuming he JUST wants the engine and nothing else. I don't know that I would make those assumptions so quickly. In his place, I'd probably be taking everything off that car that I possibly could.
With the vacuum issues nearly solved, now all I need to do is figure out how to hammer out that driver's side pre-cat. (already did the other one) Can't get at most of the catalyst.. can't even see it. Anyone who's hammered it out should know what I'm talking about. Need to find someone who has and find out how they got at the rest of it that you can't see. I don't have much around here that's strong enough to take a hammer hit yet flexible enough to get at all of it.
hope this helps...i gota no dukes.... my 18month old dropped the digi cam a few too many times. should be right. its late, and dark out. did it by memory.

OK, the "should be connected" part was the big hangup.
Bought one of those colored vacuum line assortments today from the A(uto)Hole. 10 ft. of 4mm, 5 ft. of 6mm, and 2 ft. of 10mm. (blue, of course) Looks like much of the 10mm will get eaten up on that connection. Not sure what I'll do about the line to the canister. (which I intend to keep for now.. ideally I'd like to keep EGR and the charcoal canister, and get rid of the cats and the smog pump) It was a 6mm line, as best I can tell. (it's horribly brittle) But that connection there is 10mm. Looks like that MAP sensor hose is also similarly stretched. This stuff doesn't seem like it wants to stretch that much.
Heh.. thanks for checking for me.
lol...stout
no prob by the way... ;)
Nothing back from the seller, but the pickup was supposed to be at or after 4 anyway.
Got new lines on most of the manifold connections. The only lines that won't be new are the two tiny lines and the PCV line. (I'll do that later)
Took off the driver's side valve cover and painted it to match the manifold, since I won't be able to get at it easily later. Once it's mostly dry and put back on, I'm going to take my Shop Vac to the top of the engine to get some of the offa it that degreasing and hosing it down didn't get, and put 'er all back together.
Yeah, definite thanks for that pic shame, that'll help if I have to do mine myself. On a related side-note, anyone have a clue where to pick up new threaded studs for the throttle body assembly?
Good choice on the car, hopefully everything works out. :D 86 was a good year for the LSC its got some stuff that I wish my car had, like those big ass side bolsters on the seats, also black trunk carpet. I wish my car only cost 400.
Still nothing back from the LSC guy. Oh well.
Anyway, I know the colors are messed up from one part to another, but seeing as that manifold and EGR spacer won't remain forever, I'm not too concerned. Believe it or not, they're from the same can of paint.. just did the EGR spacer as I ran out on that can.. and then clearcoated it a couple times. (the manifold is not clearcoated, the valve cover is) All the blue is the 500-degree Ford Blue from Duplicolor. I know also that not everything is hooked back up.. but I'm happy to be this far, especially doing all this while I'm still pretty sick. I stopped where I did because I was about an hour overdue for some more dayquil.
Progress:
Looks good... you even got some blue hoses!
