While some of you were out having fun at Carlisle or wherever, I was rootin' around at a couple local Yard Sales and found this for $40...
No it ain't anything you gamers would even give a second glance, but it's perfect for a garage computer... Has 3.56 Celeron processor, 120Gb SATA HD & a DVD burner... Has the dreaded(so I hear) Windows Vista but for my use, I'm happier than a hog in slop...

I'll snap a few pics after i clean up all the grime off 'em..
They aren't the prettiest, But who cares~Hard to find Engine Hoists around here.

I feel like im in the stone ages :rollin:
800MHZ celeron processor
250mg Ram with 198MG available
18gig HD with 1/3'rd free
Bios version 2.06
This machine has seen windows 3.1 !!! and the day when we were happy to get 95 on! We are now running XP on it and people cant understand how its doing it.
All this cramed into a small HP case has been running just fine since about 2000.
My boys have all that fancy stuff they earned with good grade money so thier machines can game.
Awww Scott you got a screamer there, how bout these guys in Germany that ran XP on a 7Mhz machine with 20meg of memory???
BTW the Compaq only had 512K of memory and was slow as mud till I upped to a Gig, runs decent now...

I wanna play some Far Cry on that baby! ;-P
umm,,,yep thats it
So we are thinking of an upgrade cause mason has an ATX mini with a 1.3ghz processor, 8gig ram and two HD 150gig and 500gig.
Im trying to figure out a way to integrate the mother board so i dont have to reload windows. Im stumped right now until i figure out a way.
tom
what's the thing on top?
Wow man, Great job on keeping that running.
That was my first "real working internet" computer.
Came with 500mhz celeron, 64mb ram, 10gb HD, 56K.
If you get a Dell motherboard i can hook you up with a win2000pro OS install disc, Embedded/Universal Serial (Also have win98 and ME).
Wont the HP drive boot on another board? I dont recall if its propietary. I could check mine out later for you.
Here's my work in progress:

Low End Gaming/Media.
Already pretty dated, But working with what i have or can get cheap.
Another pile of computers LOL... I have something like 15 out in the garage(maybe 4-5 are bootable), problem is the fastest is a AMD 500... I'd been running a HP 450Mhz to mostly play Mp3s, but it running Win ME & didn't have a DVD reader... Might say I went from the outhouse to the penthouse... :hick:
Scott that unit on top is a external USB HD case(uses a external P/S as well)... Can install a drive in it from another computer and read files on the new(er) one... I was adding some songs I got a few years back...
Wow, I thought I was some sort of badass running windows 95 on a 386 SX, or maybe DX, which ever one couldn't use a cd-rom because it didn't have a math co processor.
Maybe Saturday was the day for Garage sale deals. I got me a deal too. Yours is pretty nice but I like mine better. I got it for $60.

Dad has one similar. I cant remember what it is, Ive never shot it. He got his cheap too. His buddy was a dealer for a few years.
Vista isnt that bad. "Change is bad" is the main issue I think. I have no issues using it.
Nice! My dad would freak if he found that deal~Free kitten with purchase? ;-)

WOW Sat was good, maybe phase of the moon was just right...
I bought a baby swing, lol
I really need to start stopping in to these things.
16mb on-board graphics? LOL!
A couple weeks back I tried to boot a generic computer with a ASUS MB & AMD 1466 processor from a XP loaded HD that was out of the wife's 2.53G P-IV Dell... After it went through the POST it just set there, never went any farther... I had cloned that drive onto a larger one and was working a year or so ago... I can read it from the external USB HD adapter, so it still ought to be OK... The AMD is my nephews old 'puter that had a failed HD and he wanted to get it going again... I used the Dell CD to reinstall reinstall XP on another HD for him(he doesn't have any discs) and it came up and seemed to run OK, just won't be able to register that copy, not sure what he's going to do...
A friend of mine got me out from under win 98 with ME. then when the time came, we installed XP on that computer. neither one was registrable so i turned the windows update deal off, and we also used a key gen to get the OS fully open etc.
all your nephew can do IIRC, is stop the computer from trying to talk to MS.. does it need a reg key or was that already taken care of?
W-OT do you guys remember when net zero was free but you were limited to a certain amount of time? we figured out how to get around it by just using the info that was provided and we set it up just like another ISP. we bypassed the program that net zero used to keep track of your time. instead of 30 min of internet or whatever it was, we were 100% unlimited. i did this while i still had bellsouth so there was no real reason to do this except my friend didnt have internet and he was tired of the timer so we set off to figure it out. wasnt hard at all really.. suprisingly.
Well I have the key code, but XP wants to register with Micro$$oft and only gives 30 days before it shuts down and will not operate... There is supposed to be a way to edit the registry so it "thinks" it's been registered, and I went through the steps but it was still saying it needed to be registered last time it was on(there is a difference in registering and activating[key code])... The computer was his grandfathers he sort of inherited when he passed away, so has sentimental value if nothing else... Never did find the disks, likely were trashed when the house was cleaned out and sold...
Possibly he can call Micro$$oft with a sob story and get it registered... They can issue a new key code that would be unique to that computer...
Tom just call and say you replaced hardware and it will not activate online, they ask if it's installed on one computer say yes and your done. I do it 5 times or more a month it.. works everytime. Just tell them it's the codes from the sticker
If they say no, pm me I'll get you new product numbers I have tons of legit product codes left from a project at work
Thanks Bob, I'll give it a shot... Will be a couple days till I can try...
Cool... got any guys that can hook me up with a "legit" title for this car I have?
Shiny Side Up!
