Title: Anyone ever experienced someone going postal?
Post by: Dansbirds on June 03, 2009, 05:11:08 PM
Well I guess untill you are put in a situation you dont know how you will react, last Friday I was in the PO waiting for them to open. I was the first in line and the guy next was just shooting the bs with me as we waited. Anyhow a guy about 6th in line started screaming "you dont say that" and ran up and punched and kicked the guy beside me and then turned and ran from the post office. After a few seconds of shock I asked the dude if he knew him figuring it might be some old fued. well he had never seen him. When they opened I was being helped and so was the victim who was explaining what had transpired. Anyway this nut came back in and ran up to me and asked what I said about him. Now I am a pretty mild mannered 40 yr old guy who spent the better part of his 20-30's at a Golds gym and am by no means a slouch. I politely told him I wasnt speaking to him and he should get back in line, if he would like to speak to me I would be outside momentarilly. He then tackled the guy he assaulted the first time knocking him flying across the floor and he was about to kick the shiznit out of him. I dropped what I was doing and grabbed him by the arms and spun him into the counter where I held him till the police arrived. The part that I found amazing was that no one else even attempted to help this poor guy. They just stood there watching. Best part was the police station is directly across the street and it took them forever to respond, they actually drove over. Only thing the dude said as I pinned him to the counter was if I thought he might be able to go to the hospital, I told him he would most certainly be going somewher and at the moment I would prefer if he shut the hell up. Anyway that was my run in with someone going postal. Anyone else ever had that happen?

Not by a sober person........

Sounds like a homeless dude with a plan. Or someone that's lost his house/job and his mind with it.

Welcome to what I deal with about once a month....

Most of them are usually just talk, but every once in a while....

I have dealt with that quite a few times, mostly when I was with the police dept.Only a couple of times since then.I hate bullies, and have no issues grabbing one and adjusting his demeanor.

It doesn't matter what his conversation was about! No one has a right to assault someone like that.
Asking him to tone it down, or quit saying offensive things, yes...punching and kicking them for it and attacking them again later...absolutely not!

The only time I would say that kind of behavior is merited is if someone says something disgusting or perverted to a child.... then yeah, knock them out!  Otherwise... at least tell them to knock it off first, it's not acceptable. If they then keep it up... and it's bad enough, knock them out!

I highly doubt Dansbirds would be chatting it up offensively though... his demeanor here has never suggested anything like that.

8 out of 10 people are all talk
9 out of 10 are afraid
5 out ot 10 are pleased to see the reality tv with front row seats
the other half are afraid and they find safety in the net of neutrality.

there are three kinds of people in the world,
those that want things to happen
those that make things happen
those that stand around wondering what the f just happend

Good job steppng up, nevermind how long it took officers to get there.  They have full plates most of the time and this is just another day at work for them.  IMHO, the rest of the guys should have pitched in to help, i would be disgusted to step back into that crowd of people knowing they guys in line cant act like they have a pair.
no offense to anyone, just my 2c.

I can imagine in cities it does happen alot. I happen to live in rural middle of nowhere NY. A few years back the main cemetary population surpassed the towns, to give an idea of remote. As far as the conversation went, the guy was comenting on how the post office seems to open later and later and not a second before 9am, he then proceeded to tell me how he had just had surgery a week ago and was just getting back on his feet. All in all seemed like a decent enough guy, who knows what the crazy dude was on maybe the guy reminded him of someone else, i'll never know.

Reminds me of a quote from the Movie Boondock Saints (http://"http://www.imdb.com/rg/VIDEO_PLAY/LINK//video/screenplay/vi915800345/") (totally a MUST SEE if any of you haven't) At the start of the movie...

"
Monsignor (http://"http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0950161/")
: And I am reminded, on this holy day, of the sad story of Kitty Genovese. As you all may remember, a long time ago, almost thirty years ago, this poor soul cried out for help time and time again, but no person answered her calls. Though many saw, no one so much as called the police. They all just watched as Kitty was being stabbed to death in broad daylight. They watched as her assailant walked away. Now, we must all fear evil men. But there is another kind of evil which we must fear most, and that is the indifference of good men.
Connor (http://"http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001218/"): [as the brothers exit the church] I do believe the monsignor's finally got the point.
 Murphy (http://"http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005342/"): Aye.
"

Good job Dan.. the world needs more guys like you.

A tiny part of me would like to see total global economic meltdown and world chaos...if nothing else just to see the rich, city, suit wearin', stock tradin', elitist,  on the little peeps, don't have a clue what or where a hamburger or chicken nuggets come, from yuppie crowd,,turn in to sad, starving lunatics.  Just a tiny part of me mind you....reminds me....I need to clean the rifles.;)

its amazing how many people there are like this out there, but it's just laying dormant in them till something (normaly alcohol) happens.

working in a bar, I've seen so many fights happen when, the ones that didnt start the fight, werent even looking, didn't even know the guy who swung at them, or haddent even said anything to the guy all night.  People are stupid, thats one thing that unfortunately will not change,  there will always be those who somehow avoid Darwins theory of evolution.

I have seen a few people lose it, quite a few on me at work (Customer Assistance), and over nothing. None of them got physical, close but it didnt happen. Closest to this I can remember was about a month ago. 2 black men walked from TVs to Furniture yell "Ill buy from Bonnie, Ill buy from Matt, but Im not giving my money to that *fill in the racial slur*" They continued this out the door. The guy they are referring used to be the manager of TV, and is also black. Things continued to the lot with my SM and the employee they were referring to, it ended there. They were talkers. Not that they intended to fight, but they needed to be escorted off the property anyways.

salrock54 mentioned moving to the country.  no one bashed rednecks in this thread,, just a general comment on my part which is the truth.

UH, we prefer the term "appalacian americans!" lol ok I'll stop stirring the pot now! lol

In the words of Hank williams Jr.

"Come on over to the country, I think you'll like it here just fine,
Come on over to the country, we'll try to soothe your rattled mind.
Come on over to the country, listen to our people sing,
come on over to the country, you might find we're to your liking"

hank jr is right. every time i go upstate ny,i mellow out. country people are nice, and helpful.it' peaceful-the smell of the air-less stress-no rat race- love the mountains-and the country home cook food.the only thing is this city slicker is not used to the dark country side roads.

Wow...you really read too much into things. No where did he say anything offensive toward anyone else. He didn't bash rednecks or anything of the sort.... just stated he wanted out of the city and into the country....

I just don't get why you made a comment like that to him about staying where he is and staying out of the country.
