Title: Largest Tire Combo
Post by: Thor Power on June 01, 2009, 04:27:33 AM
Just curious. Didn't someone post a thread that they had put either 305's or 315's size tires on their '87 or '88 T-Bird. If not, can a 305 or 315 size tire on a 18" rim be modified to fit in the rear of a '87/'88 T-Bird?

With a mustang 8.8 and the right back spacing you can fit a 295 for sure. I'll have to talk to my buddy and see if he remembers the back spacing on his rims(he's still able to run quad shocks). There is enough room for 305's but even with the 295 you will get some rubbing if your rear springs are getting soft, especially if you have people in the back.

These are 295's on a 15x8 rim, mustang 8.8, and quad shocks.

Thanks. I've seen the T-Bird guy "HawK" car in cardomain and he has 295's but I'm not sure about the quad shocks.

Nice XR7! He just out of curiousity, are the XR7's Left half and right half fenders with the cornering lamps, interchangeable with the T-Birds. Of course using the same year type, 87-88.

Hawk's rims are custom made one off's so i think his offset is also custom.
Mine being stock offset 22mm 18x10s, i run 275/35/18s with quads and stock fender lips.
This however is the largest you can go and still retain, stock rear,1/4 lips, quads and exaust which was my goal.

Yes.I just cut holes in my"no light"fenders the same size as the factory "lighted" fenders on my blue Bird(took about 10 minutes,,a cutoff wheel, some masking tape, and a Sharpie marker). That way I didn't have to swap fenders and worry about paint. The lights are held on by the fender trim fasteners.Just get the lights and trim pieces, and whatever you need to wire them up (harness,relays.........).

Here are some 315/35-17's:

If you don't change the axles, you end up with this:
