Title: Autolamp relays
Post by: booksix on May 31, 2009, 10:42:05 PM
I'm looking for all three relays connected to the autolamp harness.  One should be gray and two green.

Thanks Vinn!  I keep having lighting problems and I think I've traced it to the relays (at least two of them that is).  Go figure, the one car I picked at the JY to strip the autolamp from has bad relays!!  Anyway, let me know!!

You can still get new ones of those gray ones at the dealer. I thought I had the right one from the parts store. Nope it wasn't right. The autolamp relay grounds trough a metal spring looking piece that sticks out the side. IT grounds on the Metal piece that holds it up under the dash!  So make sure you are testing them right.

thanks ipsd, I was wondering about that.  No wonder the relay tree has one of those green  screws holding it in place.  Only thing is, none of these three relays have a connection point between the internals and the tab that holds them in place.  In fact, the evtm doesn't even show them right...

Also, I tested a good ground on a pin being used on at least two of those relays...?

From what I have had happen with the aftermarket relays is they ground through one of those wire and makes the parking lights come on and nothing else. But when I take my broken relay that just the plastic slide is broken and solder a wire to the metal spring coil looking piece sticking out the slider side. Looks like the bottom of a coil spring sticking out. Just see the end of it. That's the ground point that makes it work.So ground the wire, And now my broken relay works. It seems the aftermarket crosses over to a regular number only that isn't the same part in this case. I called ford man with the numbers and they could order one and was kinda pricey but when you gotta have the right one you gotta have the right one.
