Well as a few of you know, I have been working on building a motor for my car. Plan was to get it in and then post about it. Well that isnt going to happen now. I have a knock that developed last week, 2 days after I bought my short block.
So now I cannot build at my pace and need something that i feel like I can trust. So I will be selling my short block for $100, same as I bought it for, and buying another for $600 with 9xxx on the rebuild (http://forums.stlmustangs.com/index.php?showtopic=143334&st=0&gopid=1184046entry1184046). If I sell my motor in time I will only be short $200 which I can borrow if needed. Good new is I will have it in sooner than projected. Other than that, nothing too positive about it.
Just wanted to share my recent news with everyone and let you guys in on the plan.

Sorry to hear of the knock noise. I've felt that pain. (Rounded a lifter and a lobe on the cam)
I'm glad to hear you will have her back together soon. Mine is still waiting on alot of time and effort. She's been down way to long.
Shooting for Aug to be in and complete. Planned on making a trip to KY for Greg to tune it but I think I am going to have to wait on that until my funds re coop. Every extra penny I have, I mean penny, is going into this. I am leaving $60 in my account every 2 weeks for gas and that the rest goes to my GF so I dont spend it.
Hmmmm... are you sure it's a rod knock? Rod knocks don't usually just happen without a serious shortage of oil. Is it an auto? If so, check the torque converter to flex plate bolts, if they loosen, it sounds just like a rod.
Good luck on your project!

Well it has had a shortage a few times. Oil light has came on a few times plus I my pressure has had some issues on start up and within the first block or so of driving. I will be changing the oil soon and straining it to look for shavings. I havent been too nice to this motor over the years so anything could be possible.
I've personally had rod knock happen with a pan that never went below full, a known good oil pump, and bearings with 15K on them...Car was under a VERY light load at around 30 MPH when it reared it's ugly head...#8 rod.
That really sucks man, I hope this works out. Make sure you take loads of pics as it goes in!
X2!!!!!! i know i shouldnt be doing this,... but i beat the pi$$ out of my 5.0, and she has had NO issiues,... the knock i had, was just an extremely worn out cap and rotor,.. but it resulted in mildly burnt valves..... Check it out,.. i dont know if you replace youre cap+rotor yet, but its worth a shot,....
Im not too sad that it started to knock. I wish it didnt but at the same time that means I get my motor sooner. Just one more excuse to build it. Still havent heard back from the guy on the 306. Kind of g me off. Need to sell the other one but I just cant move it around here for some reason.
Be careful where you money ends up, I'm not saying that your gf will waste it or anything, but about 2 years ago my wife was supposed to pay off a warrent for me, but didn't trust me to hang onto the money. She got her purse stolen with my $860 in it while she was at work. I'm sure there's still more to the story then that, but I decided to not push it so much. Whats really stupid, is there was only 3 other people there at the time and the cops wouldn't do anything about it. I worked for 76 hours overtime one week, and that was all that I had left after paying bills. I ended up getting a title loan so I could put gas in the car for 2 weeks.
THAT is a rough story. So much for not trusting YOU with the money, eh? :P
Stays at her house in a box, hidden away. Never leaves until it is being spent. I have no worries about her. After almost 2 years I have a good idea who she is. She has had $500 of mine when we where in a huge fight and it was never touched. Not one for petty revenge.
Trading my current short block for
Mass air piggy back
Mass air computer
80mm MAF for 24#
24# injectors
Think that is worth $100. Going tomorrow morning to pick up a lower mileage, cleaner, '94 short block with new main and rings and has been honed. Just needs new rod bearings. Has the hyper pistons but Im not too worried about it since it is going to be N/A. I might take it back apart and have the crank polished and everything gone over again. Just to be safe, but my budget is shrinking so I might have to take the chance.
