All the negative Cat Jam chatter (dammm economy) has given me a bright side outlook and this gives us the perfect opportunity to set up some Drag Racing. Since we have a year + for organization and this would have been the first year for any type of Drag Racing :burnout:. We need to start campaigning for a T-Bird/Cougar (Chicken vs cooch Shootout) :birdsmily:vs :cougarsmily: Bracket race set up at the local dragstrip for next years triumphant return to Cat Jamming. I will put up the money for a purse.....$500 bracket shootout $250 runner-up, extra $200 for purrrfect reaction time (pun intended). I will need some assistance with this as I will still be in Australia until the end of December 2010, so I will not be there for the event and will have a difficult time setting up the event with the local track. I would like to know if this type of event would be OK with the CJ powers that be and a guestimate of the number of possible attendees. I will attempt to work something with the gate so that CJ'ers would be able to check out the action for minimal bucks.....Now I can't promise anything without approval from Eric and the crew plus the track, but now is the perfect time to start planning and I would really like to gauge the reaction. Lets make the 2010 CJ :drink::cheers:the best yet while we still have the time!!!!
:headbang::headbang::roxor::roxor:
Saweeet!!!!!!! hopefully i get that ls soon enough,,,, ill just dump the 460..in it with a 750 carb,... let out 10psi and run that SOB til the rear snaps.....(7.5) but hey,.... itll be fun!!!! lol... j/k.. id love to,.. but id bet id even run the xr7 H.o. IM DOWN!!!!!
Actually I had something like that in mind for 2010. The only problem is, the track ownership is not stable. If I planned something a year in advance there would be zero guarantee that our plans would be honored when the time came. It's been tumultuous for the last few years, to say the least.
"IF" 2010 will be set up like 2009 at the track, Friday nights are still Test-N-Tune. $10 to race, or $10 to watch. You'd likely get 3 or 4 good runs in. Since we'd have a group of people it may be possible to A) get an area of the track grounds set aside for a picnic for just us, and B) get some kind of discount or allowance for people to watch the racing and not have to pay $10 each. Obviously this is going to take into consideration the overall cover fee that they charge, so things hinge upon that. Because of this, no solid dates have been set yet for CJ10.
However...I do have some connections at the track. I'll see if I can get in touch with my main connection soon and maybe we can make some preliminary plans now. My only hope is that, if we have to pay for it now, we don't get screwed out of the money later on. But let's start at the beginning and see what's what. I'll keep everyone posted.
cool,.... ummm this is probably too soon to ask,.. but will the cars be categorized based on mods???? like a stock HO class, 351 class and bb class???? oh and lets not forget the turbo guys!!!!! Ive havent made a run ()ever()... but im hoping to, when i get the HO conversion done.... and besides im going to need some practice goin against you guys!!!! And im sure i can coax JcP into going,... ive been itching to go to cat jam...... and incorperating racing,... would be SWEET!!!! too bad someone couldnt tip off The 5.0 mustang & other superfords magazine.........even tho this site is nationwide already,... a little more publicity would be cool!!!!!
P.S....whose the one selling the forum decals?????
Thanks
-Walt
I'm sure if the track wa approached with a group of - say 15 people ready to race on a set date - then I'm sure an arrangement could be made to set aside some time under a closed track condition.
Atco has their track rental agreement online. Perhaps something similar could be modeled out by us and run by the track near the "jam?"
The last track rental my Mustang club had guys averaged something like 17 runs a piece. Later on they even allowed some of the spectators to get involved. On a side note a 2010 Mustang automatic with 3.31's will run a 13.6 with EVERYTHING in place as it is from the factory with a 1300 DA.....That works out to a corrected 13.4. It trapped @ 104. There's more in them.
It would be a Test-N-Tune night...so there will be all makes and models running. We'd have to keep tabs on all of our own cars, motors and mods.
Not that I expect ANY OF THE NEW YORKERS TO ACTUALLY TAKE THEIR CARS OUT ON THE TRACK AND RACE THEM. Noooooo, not when the Desktop Dyno™ is just as good! Just plug in the specs and BAM! The approximate estimates are just fine! Why go out on a track and do the actual work! Never mind the fact that I take my irreplaceable 1-of-1 convertible to the drag strip every once in a while. Where would the fun be in backing up what you say, when just saying it should be all the proof you need!
:flip: :flip: :flip: :flip: :flip: :flip: :flip:
Yes, I do believe that was me calling out the NYers. There's money on this, beotches...let's see if you can step to the plate for a change...
I guess I'll have to spot you 7 cars.....Better make it 10.
12 with the Stang.
Who was all hot about Desktop Dyno anyway?
Oh I never said I'd win. I'll lose by a longshot...my car is pretty slow.
I just want proof that a NYer can actually put their car on a drag strip outside of Atco and run it. ;)
I will blow every cent i make just to try and smoke you all,... Now here comes the smack talkin.............looks like ill be welding up a trac loc anyway........or find a nice tc rear.. and weld that up....and work sumthin out so i can just get the ls,......and mildly build up the bb.....OOORRRRRRRRRRR i can PI$$ you all off go the cheap route, and get a 454 TEMPORARILY,......just to save my pocket from debt.......test-n-tune...........meh.....line up, stage and give em hell!!!!!!! ahahahahahahahahahah....and by nyers,... ill bet you mean daminc........and im sure theres a few i dont know about.....but what im getting at... is my shiznit should be straightened out by cj10,......and il be bringing two cars...so if the worst happens.....ill keep some cash aside for replacement parts........im not getting stuck out there...or leaving it with someone.........but ill still run ALL OUT!!!!!!! lol just tryin to get youre blood pumpin................
It's not the Cougar, but....
The 8th mile track outside of Carlisle last year....Horrendous spin off the line. Mediocre track prep + stock tire + positive displacement blower = shiznit 60 foots. I could'nt lay into the car till
well past the 100' mark.
Nice Paul! That's one...
Nick?
Johnny?
Bueller?
Fellas....there would be just one class cause it is a bracket race. All cars would be in the same class and would have to meet NHRA/IHRA safety tech. inspection at the local track to run. So make sure that a BBF LS Cougar with a 7.5" rear end is capable of being safe....and expect your rear end would blow up upon the first launch at the track.
Bring a helmet, battery is tied down, all lug nuts in place, tires are not bald with wires hanging out, seat belts operable, no longer than 12" consecutive rubber fuel line, Neutral Safety Switch is operable, if running slicks a drive shaft loop is required no farther than 6" from the tail shaft housing of the transmission, and no liquids leaking. That's about all the rules needed for a street car. Follow these guidelines and all should be good.
Eric....I would like to discuss with you the plans. I will send a PM.
hahaha i knew what you were hinting at.. i was just waiting for you to say it! APPLES for you and :raspberry and a pear:flip:
besides i don't live in New York anymore... i now live in Boynton beach Florida 1200 miles away from you..theres no way i'm even going to atempt dumping the clutch at 5g's with a T5 1200 miles from my house. i would'nt do it living 400 miles from you what makes you think i would even think of doing it 1200 miles away! i may be stupid but not crazy:raspberry .... and to just to go and parden the pun cooch foot it down the track to turn a 13.0 at about 120mph whats the point? to say i did? i always said if i can't run the car all out with slicks to turn mid 11's i won't waste my time with 13's at the track with my car. i would be a disappointed and would be boring to watch..
Tree Hugger
Dude, that's just where Nassau & Suffolk residents go to retire.....Unofficially, but realistically it's NY :hick:
You can't trailer it?
Oh, and after the work done to MY 7.5 it's gonna take quite a bit to blow it up.
I't's passed enough abuse tests for me to know ;)
Eric, which track are you thinking about doing this at? Quaker city?
Yes, Quaker City.
Drag racing against fellow fox T-cats? Sign me up! Well....if I can get some stinkin oil pressure.
If you all do get something set up at QCR I would drag my Capri out for the weekend. I just raced the UMTR race there last weekend.
Bob Myers
This is Quarter Aces Dragway formerly South Mountain Dragway.
As for the 7.5, the biggest issue would be keeping it from hooking. If you make it hook, you'll pay the consequences. I'm speaking from experience. I broke the driver's side bearing cap (below top bolt and above bottom bolt) and took out the ring gear by making mine hook. I hooked really hard and only moved about 1" on the staring line. I was spinning off the line and decided I was going to hook. I aired the tires down to 15lbs (Michelin street tires equal to the Good year Aqua treads)and heated them up really good. There was a loud bang when I left the clutch go. That was the end of my day. Unfortunately, I drove in and had to get someone come trailer me home.
Alright, just got off the phone with my contact. The ownership of the track is tenuous at best. There is no guarantee that we could plan this a year in advance. If we're lucky, we'd know in Feb.-Mar. 2010. Of course I'll be keeping close tabs on the situation.
However...my friend seems to think that we shouldn't have a problem getting the track earlier in the day, maybe even just for ourselves for the track (woohoo!) but the picnic thing should not be a problem either way.
This is going to involve money, time and patience to get going, which has always been a barrier, but you know something? You only live once. We need to do this if for nothing more than to say we did it. And I think everyone is going to have a good time, regardless of whether they race or spectate. I'm in, I'm racing all the way, and I know my car is ed slow but I don't really give a . It's just plain fun.
Paul: See you on the track bizzatch!
John: Commit. Or not. Choose.
Nick: We now know you have nothing but excuses. So go ahead and sit on the porch while the other Cats race. :flip:
Eric, since your car is that slow, we may as well race vert against vert. (I'm sure that mines no faster). Of course right now, I won't know what car I'll have with me next year. ;)
Run a bracket race!!! It does not matter how fast your car is, you are racing the clock. That is the only way to make it fair for everyone as the cars are not really in any type of classification category compatibility. Some cars have 5.0's, some 3.8's some 2.3's some 351W/C/M some even have 500 Caddys!!!! It's more or less a rolling car show for the cars that would be considered non-show worthy or as a just for fun event.
It's best to let the dust settle as you are correct, they cannot guarantee anything next year. We may loose out spot on next year's schedule.
Well i agree eric,.... it would be wicked cool just to race against fellow fox brothers!!!!, and to see evryone ride in person!!!!!!!
HEY!!!!!!!! SO WHAT ABOUT A HUGE CAT JAM CARAVAN!!!!! ITLL START WITH ERICS COUGAR,THEN A BIRD, THEN ANOTHER COUGAR,,,,,, ITLL BE SOOOOOOOOOO COOOL!!!!!!! ILL VIDEOTAPE IT ALL!!!!!! tOO BAD WE COULDNT GET A BIG PARKIN LOT TO DO SMOKESHOWS IN,!!!!!! OR AT LEAST A BURNOUT CONTEST!!!!!!!!
You had the caps lock on....
You haven't seen MY 7.5".....
Remove the spider gears by installing a full locker and put in some good axle shafts and you'll have a MUCH sturdier piece...
I'd be down for this. I havent drag raced in a while because dad found out about autox, so we dont go drag racing weekly anymore:( Otherwise I'd have some new #'s on my bird
I know i had caps lock on!!!!!!! just trying to grab some attention!!!!!!!
wopps double post.. sorry delete please
I like the bracket race Idea, that way anyone can race and be in it to win
Sounds like fun.
Maybe I can get mine lined out by then.
hey im the only one aloud to do CAPS LOCK.....im in if my preditor is up to it
what's up with the fuel line? you can take your car to the track if you have the stock lines right?
Count me in as well... King Cars I'm calling you out for my first race. LOL. would be a fun run.
Stock fuel lines are fine, the NHRA rules just state that it cannot have a splice of 12" or greater of just rubber fuel line. SO what that means is that if you have a different carb and the fuel line is some cobbled turd running from the pump to the carb made entirely of rubber line, you need to fix that or you will not be able to run. This is just the NHRA rule, and most governing bodies for that matter, not to say the same exact rule would be applied at the track. Most places will not allow that to run at the track. Show up at the track to fit the rules that I had stated and you will be fine. No one would drive all the way to CJ to drag race and not be prepared to get in.
LOL, thats great this is going to be fun. :burnout::burnout:
Do we have any idea what date?/month? yet
trophies are done ill post some pic soon im finshing the cam shaft lamp too ill just save it for when ever
if its fine if i run my auto 99 because if i come it will most likely be in that id be in. Yeah go ahead and laugh but im going to get it dynoed soon a local speed shop does it for 2wheels for 80.
hope i will have the car done by then. should be starting it soon:burnout:
Good luck guys! My luck I'd get there, get going, blow the engine or tranny, and have to figure a way home, lol.
I know you aren't calling me a NYer. LMAO
And, for the record...I'm not letting Roger in on this.... we don't have enough life insurance to let him race! lmao (don't tell him I said that)
