Title: Whats an 86 TC 5 Speed worth?
Post by: Live Fast on May 26, 2009, 01:01:27 AM
Friends boss man has a 1986 Turbo Coupe he wants to get rid of. I told him I wanted 1st dibs on it and he told me to come look at it. Its not a show car by any means but it is a running car. 5 Speed is good, has black interior, and the car is black with gray at the bottom. He told me to make him an offer but I dont want to piss him off! lol So whats an 86 TC go for? I have a couple old pics to put on here.

He has swapped an 87-88 motor into it.

I don't think so. Looks more like they got the intercooler from and 87-88 and put it  on there.

I can't see if it's rusty or not, but judging by the snow on it, I would guess it probably has a little. That, and having 180k miles, and a mismatched hood. If it ran perfect, I'd probably offer something in the 600 range.

I am also with haystack, I think that's a 87-88 motor. Not only does it have the intercooler, but it doesn't say "turbo" on the valve cover.

Don't get me wrong, it's not that bad, but just don't offer too much. Heck I've started projects with much worse cars that that :hick:

I'd say $500 max based on the shape of the exterior/interior (which needs work) and the fact that the engine is not stock.

So I'm still betting that those parts were swapped on there. The Hood is a must with that inter-cooler other wise it would just heat the air. Also look like they swapped the 87-88 V/c due to the shorter upper intake runner. But once again who knows. We do know it is not stock for an 86.

It's more likely an engine transplant. It has the 87-88 upper intake, valve cover, intercooler, serpentine belt, an 87 alternator, and it almost looks like there is an IHI turbo on there.

ispd, the tall valve cover fits with the short upper intake, I ran that setup for years.

As far as value, if the car is rust free, straight, and includes the missing parts you see in the interior, and mostly needs a cleaning, I feel it would be worth UP TO 1200. Keep in mind, I'm one of the few people that are willing to spend money for something thats worth the money.

There isnt much rust at all. Its been in NC all its life. That snow is very rare here! lol
I havent been to see it just yet (plan on going friday) I think he said he bought it just the way it sits in the pics. Im not worried much about cosmetic stuff...I just want it to run good. I dont mind doing cosmetic things but since my accident I cant do much mechanical.
