Title: Fog light covers on or off?
Post by: CoogarXR on May 25, 2009, 08:35:55 PM
Do you guys with the 83-86 factory fog lights drive around with the covers on or off?

Just wondering...

I preferred the look of having the covers on, but I was always expecting somebody to steal them.

So far, more "on" folks than I thought.

Why do you leave the covers on, to protect the lenses? Or to show off that you still have the covers :D?

I can't decide. It's a double-edge sword. If I leave em on, as cougarcragar said, somebody could steal them (or they might blow off). If I leave them off, a stone or something could break the lense. But I would like the convenience of being able to turn them on without getting out and taking the covers off...

Still undecided :hick:

I only take them off when it's foggy out.

Sal's got it right. Investing in a spare set of Marchal fog lights (or even just the glass lenses) seems to be significantly cheaper than finding good covers. Of course, there are plenty of semi-ratty covers out there...if I were using Marchals again, those are the covers I'd use for regular driving. And yes, I'd leave them on. :)

Another solution: several companies make thick, clear static cling overlays for headlights, fog lights, etc. that are cut-to-fit. Best of both worlds there. Leave the Marchal covers off, drive with confidence, don't have to remove any covers to use the lights.

If they work as advertised...

I leave them off.  I drive my car daily, including at night.  The fog lights are on whenever the headlights are on.  My headlights and fogs are both wired through relays so I've got tons of illumination at night!

Exactly what I would do.  My '84 TC that I had for a short period didn't have covers but if I had 'em I woulda rocked 'em.

EDIT - I might have to retract my statement.... I did just see a set of covers on ebay that completed a couple days ago and they went for about $150, and another that went close to $140..... nevermind.
