Title: got a stereo installed
Post by: t3skidoo on May 24, 2009, 02:57:21 PM
After some research and experiments then talking to the installer AND dealing with the recent unauthorized removal of the other car's unit, here are the results.  First pic is the "after" picture.  Second pic shows some of the boxes that went in, bags are what came out.

Unit is installed and sounds great.

I'll probably do the same thing to the other one when time comes to get it back on the road.  The installer put it where I had relocated the premium sound module.  Wasn't needed with this head unit, and he didnt' have to restring wires.

It's wierd starting up the car and getting music.

Is that the permanent location of the headunit?

Hey,that's nice, but, how do you change radio stations,cd's,whatever? That's where I have my 10 disc changer mounted, then I have the CD player in the dash. They both have remotes. That's a good thing when we're outside the car listening to music and I can change music with the touch of a button.

Ahhh, sneaky sneak, I see your reasoning.  It will be interesting to see how you control it from up front.  If you don't wanna buy that headunit again then perhaps you might think about taking that pic down sometime so it doesn't slip into the wrong hands.

probably should disable the trunk button in the glove box as well then. way too inconvenient imo just to avoid someone ripping it off buy hey, whatever works.

I always wanted to try taking a factory radio, pull the face off, glue the buttons in place, run the edges on a bench grinder until it fits where your detachable face goes. When you get out, pull the faceplate off, pop the "factory" plate on. That way when somebody looks thru the window, they'd just see the ol gay tape deck and move on.

No electric trunk release, this one came fairly light on the options.  And, yes, I hesitated to put the pic up ... only members can see the embedded pics, right?

I considered the decoy, even considered not putting in a receiver at all, just having a playlist running off something like an iPod.  If this one does get stolen, I'm getting headphones and a portable tape player.

This car has been broken into 7 times.  SEVEN.  That's six windows, one set of window trim plus a bent b-pillar, and three head units.  Plus another head unit just recently stolen from the DD.  It's not like I'm buying the most expensive electronics available.  Quite the opposite, I'm buying the cheapest.  But hey, it's free for whomever steals it.

Thats why I leave my door unlocked and have the stock stereo with only one speaker. People piss me off. I have thought about hooking a propane blow torch into the seat with a pressure activated switch.
