Title: Question about Mark VII spindles
Post by: V8Demon on May 15, 2009, 06:26:48 AM
My question comes from here:

Spindles
You can use spindles from either the 1987-93 V8 Ford Mustang or a 1987-88 Turbo Coupe; they're both the same parts. You can get them used at a salvage yard or online. The 1984-92 Lincoln Mark VII spindle will fit but requires modification of the ball joint--avoid it if possible.

Exactly what is this modification that is required?  I'd like to know just for curiosity.

Ball joint is wider where it attaches to the spindle.

The ball joint "stud" is bigger than the rest of the Foxes, thus the hole in the spindle is larger.

There is available (or at least used to be) an adapter sleeve that goes over the Fox balljoint to allow you to use the SVO/Lincoln spindles.  I used them WAY back when on the old black '83 we had when I converted it to the 11" stuff (had the spindles left over from my SVO-suspended Capri).
