It seems as though nobody knows what our cars are. The girl at the drive through how cool my Corvette looked the other day :beatyoass:
Anybody have a funnier one?
My father is always telling me how much he likes my Cougar. I guess he still hasn't gotten over the grey 88 I wrecked 10 years ago, because that was the only Cougar I'd ever owned...
Always getting called a T-Bird, Thunderchicken, mostly what is it?
We had a 10-12yr old boy look at Our cat and tell his dad it was a Jaguar last summer. He He
I had a guy ask me if the vert was one of those "converted Rivs" last week.
And he was more impressed that it was a Cougar
I usually get asked "what kind of car is that?".I just tell them it's a Stang with a body kit.
Mine mainly gets mistaken as junk because its in pieces!
Turbo Coupe :hick:
I 2nd the Turbo Coupe thing...lol. Once I had a guy ask me what kind of BMW my car was. That one hurt my feelings a little.
I've heard people say nice stang as they walked by,i kindly correct them.
Hey,it's better than having your car mistaken for a Chevy....right?
The 87 i have never had anyone mistake for another car but the 99 has been called an eclipse before.
I had a guy ask his kid to look under my car to see if it was front or rear wheel drive... stupid chevy guys
I get the opposite. Everyone calls mine a T-bird....
What year is that, wow, what is it? . Usually, They say why do that to a cat.
My answer, because I can.
no not at all. and that is exactly what I said. and then I said they never made a front wheel drive thunderbird. lol
When I had my 86 cat, I had a kid tell me he had a v-6 tbird with a turbo too. When I told him it was a cougar he laughed at me.
Yes it is, one time someone said my car was a Monte Carlo with a LT1 in it. :wtf:
Another person said it was a Cougar.
Most people don't know what it is so they ask, and I just tell them it's a Lincoln Continental Mk VII since that's technically what it is, and everyone seems to recognize the Continental name.
All my Cougars except After have always been mistaken for TBirds, despite the big cat emblem the observer is staring at when he makes the comment.
People don't mistake After for a Bird. If they don't see "COUGAR" in the side valance, they always ask what kind of car it is.
Had a guy say "That has to be a Buick", the other day.
Well i had a remote car starter installed and it was before the tc hood and bumper were installed, before paint, and before the tc seats. the guy was like "where are the keys for the old turbo coupe" I was happy.
The guy at the dealership told me he liked my supercoupe one day when everything was done. lol
You shouldn't have hurt feelings at all. The BMW 6-series coupe of the early 80's was a big design influence for these cars.
" What has yours been mistaken for "
Abandoned :[
I know I know but I'm not a BMW fan at all. I just want to go on living without thinking about it man! lol. Maybe its worse for them..we're like their redneck cousins.
when I had my cougar it was mostly "what is that" followed by "it looks cool whatever it is"
the tbird is "thunderchicken" or "wow that is cool" or "that thing's turbo'd?!"
:hick:
I kinda like being able to say yeah they got the idea from BMW but I'm thinking the Wind tunnel had a big influence in the shape of the Bird's seeing how Ford wanted to get the aero they were missing with the 80-82 Box Fox birds. Back then a stock car or Winston cup car were pretty stock and if the aero was built in all the better. These Fox T-birds still hold the fastest lap at Daytona & Talladega for a Cup car that is. Everyone knows what I drive I work at a parts store. Did have a guy onetime ask "what kinda thing is that?" Didn't know if that was good or bad question.
Stuckman
Vinnie you are a....well I wont say it here. :hick: :rollin::rollin: I about fell over when I read that.
I must either not hang around the right people/places or just ignore/not hear people altogether. I never hear a thing. Yes, my life's apparently boring like that. Either way, I'll keep wrenching on it in the driveway until every part on it is new, rebuilt, or customized. I couldn't care less what anybody else thinks - as long as it gets me where I'm going comfortably without drawing attention to myself, I'm good.
Keep in mind that was back before they used restrictor plates.
I think the most recent incarnation of the Monte Carlo (not the CoT body..) would have at least equaled Awesome Bill's fast lap.
On topic: I had a carhop at Sonic once time flirtin' it up with me..and she said "I've always like Firebirds like yours." :punchballs:
I corrected her with a little smartass comment along the lines of firebirds having been a "second-run Camaro...and the Thunderbirds have been their own nameplate since 1955....maybe I should've just asked her out lol.
my primered 88 was mistakenly called a Buick once.....Granted, all the symbols were blacked out but ......
LOL...the Cats are never mistaken for anything else...however, my mom insists that the Trailblazer is our "van". She even tried to 'slide' open the side door on it.
Mmmm, true until the final Firebird generation. The last years' trans am would strip the paint off a Corvette.
Last year i had a bunch of kids say they liked my regal. I got out and looked around and said i dont see any buicks around here. They were like but your driving one.. I asked them where they say anything on my car that says buick or regal and i heard one kid go dude its a firebird i corrected them after hearing that. Its a thunderbird you know made by ford. Kids these days if its not a honda they have nooooo clue
Thats the truth ;). When I tell most people about my car they say something along the lines of "Why would you want to rebuild such a huge car?" I usually reply "Its not as "Huge" as you think it is."
Ive aLREAdy had 3 people cal the cougar an eliminator.... this one guy goes hry i had an eliminatror too!!!!
Okay, I know this isn't a bird, but.... my boss asked me what I was driving because she knew I was a "car guy". I showed this pic and she said, "Oh, I love your Corvette!" What an insult.
Ouch...... Gotta say being a Ford guy all my life it looks alot better then a vette
Might have something to do with the ELIMINATOR across the trunk...:mullet:
I'm afraid he has a point. :rollin:
Pretty much same here although last night crusing around this early 90s volvo filled with this guy prolly my age, his gf, and three guys in the back was sitting next to me at a stoplight...and I dont know if he heard me hammerin on it earlier up the road or if it was just the idle of my dumped flowmasters but he said "what the HELL do you got in that thing!" And I proceeded to jokingly/sarcastically shout back maniacally "oh dude this things pumpin MAAAAAD VTEC!!!!!!!"
Well obviously!!!!!!! LOL!!!!!! (its funny seeing all these ricers grill my car.........never did before.....) I LOVE IT!!!!!
People used to always ask me that right after I did my duals and I had tail pipes still with the primer nose. They used to always ask how much I would sell it for the whole time I had the primer nose. Now with the exhaust ending at the lers and everything some shade of black no one ask much unless I am already in a conversation with them. Funny how things work. Pretty sure after almost 5 years everyone that lives around me gets the hint Im not selling it. My exhaust has scared off a few people that could have walked me, a GTP, a few imports wanted to run til I feathered it a little. Also attracts some people too, a lot of Mustang, other randoms, I just laugh because I know I would lose. Only raced one car that was trying to get me to run, Grand Prix that thought he had a GTP, on the highway, with my top end that never was, walked him. Got tired of hearing him fly up and drop back over and over.
i had alot of coments on my 85 mercedias benz convertible...or just had pepole walk around it for a few mins at car shows then finaly ask me wtf it was
Mustang most of the time
Charger only 1 time
-lol...how many Ford guys call it a '56...???:hick:
Driving my black rusty old bird through the McDonald's drive thru, a kid called my car a "Vintage Classic". I was confused. Was I THAT old? Was he talking about my $200 enduro car? Did he mistaken the car for something from the 1950's? I dunno, but I laughed all the way home. Other than that, everyone else called it a P.O.S.
Most folks know what it is, but don't believe it's 25+ years old.
The common mistake is the SuperCoupe - TurboCoupe mix-up.
Most people think my t-birds are made in the 90s insted of being a 87 and 88.
It's funny. Nobody knows what mine is. In the public's defense these were not very popular. Usually folks know it's not a Fairmont. Usually I get LTD. But, you all know it's a Cougar.:D
